You guys are a bunch of pessimist bums. Sure, the Jets have historically been one of the worse teams in the league, but what kind of fan are you if there's a bump in the road late in the season and you immediately call it quits. Chad had a bad game... it happens. Last time he played like this was against the Bears, and the next week he came back roaring against the Texans. The problem with most Jets fans, like yourselves, is that as soon as someone has a bad game, its immediately time to replace him. For example, I see posts all around the message board that says "Start Kellen" and "Maybe we hired the wrong Head Coach." Mangini has done an unbelievable job, and not one of us would have ever expected this team to be above .500 at any point in the season, let alone be mentioned in the same sentence with the word "playoffs." Anything can happen, proven by Vince Young's astonishing combacks over teams much better than the Titans, and the Jaguars embarrassing of the Colts on Sunday. With perserverence and a few upsets, we can still claim that #6 seed with a 10-6 record. I believe... do you?
I do. I did a little breakdown of the games left and I have us and Cincy at 10-6 and in. In 04 we needed 7 games the last 3 weeks to go exactly our way and they did. This year, I haven't added them up because it's too depressing , but over the last 3 weeks it's probably 2.5 times that with all the teams alive. It's very improbable. The problem here, Ibleed, is not the Jets losing, it's how they lose when they face a good pass rush. Chad gets completely shut down. Sports are very wierd, though. One would think that with NE going into Miami and losing 21-0, that we would lose 30 to -3, but you know that with our history with them it won't go that way, or at least you think so. That's the key game. All year it's been the key one I've been looking at that we need to win. I think we can take the other two.
The Jets will beat the Vikings to give us all hope, which will eventually be crushed when the Dolphins abuse Chad and beat us by double digits. Kellen Clemens will start week 17. I am an insufferable pessimist.
10 wins may not be enough if the jags and bengals play the way the are playing. We are on the outside looking in as of now, and even though I am usually more positive, even I have to admit the performance was abysmul and clearly shows the limitations of our team. We had every opportunity to for us to control our destiny....that is not the case anymore.
Finishing 10-6 would satisfy me. Playoffs or not. Decent chance it would lead to the playoffs though. If the Dolphins were 10-4 and the Jets were 4-10 on Christmas it would not be a give me game for either team. This is a rivalry. Throw the records out. It is in Miami, so the have the edge, but it is a small one.
Man I agree with you. Its not being pessimistic its being realistic. Beating the vikings and dolphins is extremely difficult. We will only beat the dolphins if we shut them down completely. Basically only way we will win the next 3 games is if our defense shut these teams down.
Gee buddy, I wonder why most Jets fans have a pessimistic attitude? Look, I bought into the whole Superbowl talk last season...I mean the Jets had finished 10-6, beat San Diego in the Wild Card round, then came within a kick of going to the AFC Championship game...So, keeping most of the team, getting Ty Law to stabalize the secondary, and I thought the Jets could at least go to the Title game...Of course injuries played a factor, but regardless, 4-12! That will be the LAST time I take such a sunshine look on the Jets...
I think we are all pessimistic at time and really optimistic at other time. Chad has a good game then a bad one. We are no different then the coaches on the team we expect consistency and execution. If you add the emotions and personal investments that some of this site fan make you would understand the back and forth ranting we all post. If Chad was performing lights out every time, the discussion would be what the future of clemmens is, or do we resign Chad. It’s the same ole same ole. But you would have to agree any coach in the league would have taken Chad out for a series or quarter during his struggles. That’s the big thing here we don’t have an adequate back up that the coaches feel safe to turn loose hence we are all on the Chad wagon. Whether we like it or not! I believe.
You're kidding, right? Unless you can show me a previous post where you "had" Jax beating Indy, Miami beating NE, and Buffalo beating us, I don't know why you would think it makes any sense to post that. Otherwise, you should be in Vegas rather than at this board. Stop trying to predict where every team will end up. We know what we need to do to make it and that is win out.
how many more of these stupid posts are we going to have to read? dude, 20 people already posted this same stuff...thanks for the inspiration though
MHO is that posters like him actually keep knowledgable posters away from the board when they see how silly so many of the posters are that actually post
I said I did a breakdown of the games left. That would be weeks 15,16 and 17. You're talking about last weeks games. You also happen to be incorrect. We need more than to win out to make the playoffs at this point. Stop? I should stop because some newbie comes on and tells me to? Using your logic, why would you think it makes any sense to tell someone to stop posting football talk on a football talk message board? I'll post what I want and if you don't like it you can....well, there's really nothing you can do.
I know what you said. Of course I'm talking about last week's games b/c my point was that it's almost impossible to predict how all the wild card contenders are going to end up. Last week should have showed you that. I said "what WE need to do to make it is win out." There is nothing incorrect about that statement. Yes, we need help, but WE, i.e. the Jets, cannot not do anything influence other teams that need to give us help. What does me being a "newbie" have to do with anything. Your argument deserves more credit b/c you've been here longer? Come on, now. I'm not sure where you saw in my post that I said to stop posting "football talk." In fact, I think I was pretty explicit in what I said to stop posting - maybe you should go back and re-read it. Obviously, you can post what you want and since you've been here so long you should know that no one here refrains from posting just b/c another member tells them to stop. But... Wrong. I can alert you to the fact that your post is illogical.
It's impossible to predict that us and Cincy are the only teams to finish 10-6? That's what I'm predicting, and it's not that impossible....but for some reason my predicting that really upset you. YOu're backtracking on the next thing. You specifically stated that we all know what we need to do to make the playoffs and that's win out. BAsically, you were telling me to stop stating the obvious. Now you're saying of course we need help, and I'm pretty sure that was the point of my original post. It's too obvious for you? Dude, everything is obvious. When defenders are in Chads grill all day it's obvious the O-line had a bad day, but in your world there won't be one post about the O-line on Monday because it's too obvious for you. Did you see Mondays posts? As far as the next thing, but......what? You answered your own dumb logic. No one refrains from posting something because someone else tells them to, and you just did it again even after saying it. Why you singled me out I have no clue. It must be my smarts. See how I handled you without cursing? As for the illogical thing. Who are you, Mr Spock? Get your ass back to the controls and plot a course to the playoffs for us, k?
All I'm saying is that you guys need to take it easy on Chad and especially on Mangini, and it never does any good to lose faith before the Jets are mathmatically disqualified from playoff contention.
Your prediction upset me because it was based on "a little breakdown" that you claimed to have done. You didn't explain your breakdown but rather started rambling about how things fell into place in previous years. That seemed irrelevant to me. That is why I singled you out. I'm not backtracking. I believe we need to win out to make the playoffs. Why is that statement incorrect just because I didn't qualify it with a clause stating that we also needed help. We are arguing over semantics at this point so I'll let you believe that I was unaware of the fact that we needed help. I happen to think that there is an inherent difference between posting about the o-line having a bad day and about obvious things such as we need help to make the playoffs. I would much rather read the former and will continue to call out people who have us in the playoffs based on "little breakdowns" that they've done. Yours truly, Mr. Spock
