You're not unhappy about Darnold and Bell injuries. You're almost relieved. This points out Idzik and Maccagnans years of ineptitude and accelerates our bottoming out. If you're the new GM, and saw Sunday's offensive line sh*t show, you'd want to protect your 2 assets (Bell and Darnold) while the OL gelled. Not that he'd WANT an injury to Darnold or Bell, but there's a glowing silver lining in protecting their bodies from serious harm, while tooling for the future. Any new executive that inherits a sh*t show wants to bottom out as fast as possible. Idzik and Macagnan's poor drafts have robbed us of any depth. While Douglass likely doesn't want to lose, he likely sees these injuries as an opportunity to protect his top assets while the OL gels and get to the bottoming out fast. While this is SOJ type sh*t, I'm excited because we have a smart, aggressive GM that understands football for the first time in a long time.
I wouldn't refer to Bell as an injury. He had a sore shoulder and they sent him to get an MRI as a precaution. In fact, Gase even stated that they are likely being overly cautious about it. Guy got hit in an NFL game for the first time in 602 days.
If your Joe Douglas you're disappointed in Adam Gase's presser where he looked totally defeated. C'mon Coach...suck it up.
It’s amazing Idzik and Mac are considered professional at what they do. Those guys are complete trash. Nearly all of us could have drafted better than both combined. It’s mind numbing that these guys worked their way up like that. How in the hell did they get there? Shocking. They, with Toilet Bowles, belong in the athletic department of a D2 school.
Still...next man up and all that. He starts moping around the facility...what does that say to the players? That display of defeat is the biggest issue I've seen out of Gase and it's troubling. We're one game into the season and the head coach is acting like his puppy got run over.
Let me walk back my previous dig at Gase. I had only seen a short clip of him announcing Darnold out. When I watched the entire presser I saw he wasn't as dour as the short clip portrayed w/o context. Sorry Adam...I jumped the gun. Go Trevor!
Running the football operations for a franchise that has had the most inept drafting and free agent signings you could possibly imagine for 6 consecutive seasons, courtesy of John Idzik and Mike Maccagnan.
It's already pretty clear what Gase and Douglas thing of Mac era guys...not much. And they will boot them out the door without thinking twice Douglas understands the deficiencies he was left with and I feel he'll do a great job filling those holes. Thing is this year there was almost nothing that he could do to fix CB. And his approach to the draft would've been different. No way a 3rd is wasted on Polite.
Fantastic post. Just acouple things id love to know the answer to.. A. What in the world happened in that 2014 draft w Idzik. What was the plan? What was the prototype? Was it Bradway calling the shots? Was there a major trade that fell through?Did prospects say they didnt wanna play for us? How do you so badly mess up that many picks in such a crucial point in the team’s history? Blindky throwing darts at a big board wouldve yielded more talent. B.We heard so much about how Mac was an evaluation nerd.Always trying to find time to watch prospects. What in the world was this guy looking for when he watched tape? How can you supposedly spend that much time studying film & be so terrible at picking even marginally functional players?
