I think jumping to the conclusion that Sam will be out for 6 games including a bye week, is a little premature. Beat Cleveland, lose against New England and head into the bye week 1-2. Then we evaluate where Sam is at.
The Browns lost at home to the Titans by 30 points. This is a must win game for them also. They are just as likely to implode on Monday night as we are. If we have some success early and back them into a corner they could melt down. If we hit Mayfield early, the tempers will flare. Being over hyped is a curse all its own. I say "go Trevor" and lets win this thing. We will need to use Bell more and control the game. But it could be doable. Go Jets! (edit - I posted this game was in Cleveland which was incorrect. My mistake.)
I saw that game because my local CBS affiliate refuses to broadcast Jets' games. The Browns were undone by all the penalties and the 75-yard TD by Henry right after the Browns had taken the lead. That broke their back. Then Mayfield threw a couple of picks and the game was over. If the Browns had held the Titans instead of Henry scoring that long TD, the outcome of that game could have been very different.
The game is in MetLife. I don't know why people keep saying the Browns will be at home. Considering he hadn't played a down of football in 602 days, I would chalk it up to soreness and taking every precaution
Not necessarily. Football is a game of momentum and confidence. If the Browns held the Titans after taking the lead, or even if the Titans had had to take a long time to drive down the field and score, everything else could have changed. After Henry scored that long TD, one could see the air went out of the Browns. They were just going through the motions.
Siemian is better than Osweiler, Cutler, and Moore. Hopefully Sam can come back by week 7 or 8 and get ready for the cupcake stretch of our schedule
I have a weird feeling we win this game Monday night and shock the shit out of the football world. More shock them that the Browns start 0-2 and they lose to the Jets with Semen running the offense
if we're all being honest, Darnold to Semen aint really much of a drop off. From an organizational standpoint it is, but in between the lines it aint. I could see the Jets still winning
Well we know enough not to be in full-on panic mode about him, at worse he may end up like Dalton and pick whoever you want for the top end of the scale. He is certainly no Geno at the end of the day. Disappointing for him to fall to an odd illness but hopefully, it will be a mild case and he will get 7-8 games in and show us what he can or indeed can't be. I am more worried about conservative play-calling hindering him again though.
I agree with this. Sam is not lighting the world on fire, at the moment, which makes Semen a parallel move. Obviously the ceiling is much much higher for Sam. But for now, I can see Semen winning us a few games
I just wish it was Sam so we can see him develop, I can definitely see Siemian winning us a game or two though.
Oh of course, but it was the hand we were dealt, unfortunately. Sam is our guy, so let him rest and recover. Until then, let's put our hopes in Semen.
