Our extremely young QB has a tough opener, gets mono, and suddenly he is no good? People want to tank the season for a draft pick after 1 game? Lemme remind people what else happened in week 1: The Steelers lost by 30 points. The Browns lost by 30 points at home. The Redskins blew a 17 point lead. The Falcons lost by 16 points and only scored 12 points. The Lions blew a 17 point lead....to the Cardinals. The Bears only scored 3 points. So we blew a 16 point lead and lost by 1 point. That loss is not even in the top 50 crushing Jet losses. We don't know crap about how this season is going to turn out yet.
Our extremely young QB probably had mono symptoms while he was playing in the opener and that contributed to his less than stellar play.
Realistically, we can kiss the playoffs goodbye. Not that that was realistic anyway. But as long as Darnold is healthy for the second half, we'll still be able to evaluate him. If he's good, we'll have some optimism for 2020 with Douglas running the show. If not or if he's out the whole season, we'll be in position to draft a new QB if that's what Douglas wants to do. Either way we'll get to see (with ample popcorn) how well Gase handles adversity. But with Darnold out for now, I'll focus most of my attention on baseball. It's times like this I'm glad I'm a Yankees fan.
That’s what I’m most upset about - the lack of Darnold evaluation. This entire year was nothing but evaluating him while MAYBE playing meaningful games come December where if a few things go right, you get in as a WC. This absolutely sucks and hopefully we can get him back for weeks 9 or 10 - 17 to actually evaluate his game.
I HATE that they passed on Watson moreso than Mahomes. Not that Watson is better that Mahomes, but he was from a bigger school and i loved what Watson did in College, i was so mad when they passed on him......i try not to get too high or low with the Jets anymore
To be honest we don't know what (if any) 8-8 team might sneak into the playoffs. Its too early to lose hope.
I came into the season as a fan expecting a contender than could at least compete for a wildcard birth but now? after dropping a late 16-0 lead @ home? followed by losing Sam Darnold for WEEKS? I don't even wanna fkn post anymore as I'm now expecting nothing more than 2 wins reminding me of 2011 disaster all over again. fk it
90% of humans get the mono virus at one point in their life. Most of those people never experience any symptoms Little kids get it all the time from licking handrails and picking up crap off the floor, and if mono develops they get mild symptoms. The older you are when you get mono, the more severe the symptoms. A 60 year with it would probably end up in the hospital
Hopefully Sam will be back by week 9 of the 2025 season. We play the Rams that week and it's a straight stretch of very winnable games.
I cant help but think Sam was already coming down with it on Sunday. He didn't seem like himself. This is hugely disappointing and devastating to us fans. Yet I will not sit here and vent on this board about how everything and everybody is fucked up and the ownership, CS and GM is to blame. Yes, we have now hit rock bottom or pretty close to it, and much of it is just life dealing us a bad break. Let see in earnest how the CS, the GM and the rest of the team deal with such adversity. If they collapse and do not give 100% I'll freak out. It they stand tall, win or loose, I'll be the first to applaud them.
He did have it Sunday. When this was initially reported, they had stated that Sam was concerned because he was losing weight at a very rapid clip and felt weak over the last few days. It definitely made an impact on Sunday, which would explain a lot.
Interesting take on last Sunday, he certainly did not look himself. We've definitely been dealt a shitty hand to start the season, which is really no one's fault. Agreed the team needs to show pride and fortitude on Monday night. The season rolls on, bad breaks or not.
Which makes me even happier with Sam's progress. Even with Mono and feeling less than 100%, he did not turn the ball over. Which is a far cry from last year and his college days
When I was 22 I had Mono and my case WAS NOT severe----I lost 25 pounds and was beyond weak and I had zero energy and I was out of commission /Quarantined/ told to stay at home for 4 or 5 weeks = I had to quit all sports that I was playing at the time. As someone else suggested now we have to see if anyone else on the team catches it or has it .In my case I never found out who gave it to me as no one I knew had it and I did not give it to anyone else including my girlfriend at the time. IMO we might not see him until November at best depending on the severity.
