But it was Douglas who traded the pick. If he has our faith he declared by his actions that he understands the future value of this 6th round pick but feels that it's worth sacrificing for the value that DT provides right now. Unless we want to start the conspiracy theories that this was an Adam Gase decision. I'm sure it's not long before that narrative starts up. Sent from my Pixel 2 XL using Tapatalk
I think it does a lot for our team's development. I remember very clearly how much Sanchez regressed when he was stripped of quality receiving options. For the importance of Darnolds development I pray that Douglas keeps the skill positions manned by legit NFL players and figures out our OL situation asap. Sent from my Pixel 2 XL using Tapatalk
It's a 6th round pick... odds are that player doesn't play for you regularly for more than a year, if at all. What DT brings is worth 6th round value and more.
it's also a 6th rounder 2 years from now. not even the next draft which is funny. value wise they consider that a 7th rounder (future pick devalues 1 round). So we paid less for DT then what KC paid us for lee. DT is also the same guy who houston traded a 4th round pick to denver for less then 1 year ago to use him for 7 games. It's a good trade for the jets overall and the pats really just wanted to shed a roster spot for AB and save a little cap. no room on that team for DT. AB and gordon as the starters with edelmen in the slot. dorsett and the meyers guy as the 4/5 and special teamers
There’s a saying on draft Twitter that the NFL draft is 4 rounds long. Picks in rounds 5-7 are virtually useless. I’m sure someone will reply to this cherry picking a bunch of names picked in those rounds, but the reality is that over 90% of those picks turn out to be garbage. There’s a reason day 3 picks are passed around like candy all over the league. Getting a veteran receiver who knows your system for one of those picks is a fine deal.
Pats took Brady in the 6th. We just traded them their future Brady replacement! Or the next Edelman! And he was a seventh rounder, so if they take a receiver in the sixth then buy my super simple calculations that means he’s going to be BETTER than Edelman! Seriously though, they just cut the receiver they drafted in the sixth round a year ago and we picked him up. Tells you just about how much the patriots value a sixth round pick when you’re not talking about the biggest outlier of the century in Tom Brady.
Favre for a Conditional 4th Harvin for a 6th Lito Sheppard for a 4th AND 5th There have been a lot more over the years but these are off the top of my head from 30+ years as a fan. It's a recurring theme with this team - Best scenario is that DT gives us a year or two and then rides off into retirement. That's not continuity and he's taken up a roster spot for a young player. Rather than debate it, I'll take my negative views and go now. Go Jets.
Douglas knows as well as anyone that 6th round picks rarely amount to anything. Just because we changed GMs doesn’t mean 6th round picks are suddenly going to become valuable assets.
When you have zero clue how to procure draft talent at any number of positions & care more bout selling tickets in the short term than repairing it over the long haul, this is what occurs. Youre forced to trade for other team’s scraps. The only way out of this reoccuring nightmare is to draft better;same thing weve been saying since..Forever!
No need to leave. I’m just asking because I feel like the notion that the Jets always trade picks for washed up guys is overblown and mostly false. The trade for Favre was for a 3rd rounder so there’s no comparison whatsoever to this situation. The 6th round pick we traded for Harvin ended up getting traded to the Skins and they took Kyshoen Jarrett. Who? Exactly. He played one year. The only person of note drafted after that was Quandre Diggs. So the only comparable situation ended up affecting the team almost not at all. In fact I’m confident in saying the pick was completely inconsequential. Edit: the Sheppard trade ended up being only a fourth. Much higher value than a 6th as well.
Ironically I posted this today if you wanted real numbers of how many 5-7th rounders are currently starters in the NFL https://www.forums.theganggreen.com...-draft-position-of-starters-in-the-nfl.92784/
Some very small numbers and you have to figure a lot of even those guys are only starting due to lack of better options. Players fall to day 3 for a reason.
They better give him a cavity check for hidden listening devices. Sent from my SM-G960U using Tapatalk
Yeah, but since Douglas is the one making those draft picks, if he thought it was worth it to trade one for Thomas, then I have no problem with it. Besides, he's the one responsible for building the team. He has the right to use his capital any way he wants.
So trading a 2021 6th round pick that is easily replaceable for a vet at a position we have no depth at is a SOJ move? Got it. Let's just call up Ryan Spadola and Clyde Gates and put those morons out there.
We arent winning anything this year anyway.Id rather play w caca & get another high pick than even speak to the cheaters up north much less feed their master plan. Bellichick is pure evil scum.He is enemy #1 for this franchise.why give him our pocket lint much less a draft pick? They could easily package that pick along w the handful of others theyve shafted w similar moves & trade for the QB to replace Brdy if/when Stidham doesnt work out.Id like to see someone else at the top of the afce/league in my lifetime. Its only been 18 yrs.Apparently some of you are hungry for more patriot bullshit? We take this short sighted view for a stinking 32 year old receiver & have to give compensation to the evil entity we’ve been trying to avenge for 2 decades?! “ hair of the dog that bit you” er something like that? This is about selling tickets & gase saving his job.Its not a winning move. The symbolism of it absolutely sucks. Lets get excited about 5-11 rather than 3-13.Thats all this shitty move opens the door to.Does this regime even know who they are employed by?Is there no respect or understanding what the pats have done to this team/fanbase?
