Agreed, and I am not stating that Sam Darnold has zero blame for the loss yesterday. I was simply pointing out the likely reason for the game plan and struggle to throw the ball deep. Not to mention Darnold had basically zero time in the pocket to allow for route progression
that game shoulda been a lot worse. Buffalo dominated both sides of the ball. The turnovers were fluky and lucky and the only reason the Jets had a lead.
Were the play calls conservative or was the decision making of the QB conservative? You can run routes all over the field but if Sam Darnold decides to dump it off to the safety guy every time it doesn't matter what play you call
Posted this in one of the other dumb threads but this was just an extension of what Gase did in Miami. The offense looked the exact same. There’s no reason to believe it’s going to change because it never has. Maybe this is why you don’t keep yes men around, like that moron we hired as our OC.
We don't have an OL that can block and we don't have DBs that can cover..not a good recipe for success and we have known about both since last year.
we also had roughly 100 mill in cap space and let two pro bowl special teamers including a kicker leave
Darryl Roberts was fucking abysmal yesterday. I still can’t believe we signed him to be a starting cornerback. He’s a bubble rotation guy at best. For as great as our offseason acquisitions looked (Mosley, Bell, Crowder) the glaring weaknesses we failed to address looked REALLY bad.
That was an abysmal play on the Brown touchdown. He squeezed him perfectly OOB and towards the sideline. How TF does he let Brown regain the inside to catch that ball and come down with it?
This. Usually after one bad performance, I don't jump to any conclusions. But because this is exactly how Gase's offense looked in Miami, I'm very concerned.
I dont know who caught the Gase presser a few minutes ago but he's already getting testy with the media and blamed just about every person on the team besides himself. Off to a great start. Gee, I wonder why he was canned and no one but us picked up the phone to call him...
So Gase lays the blame everywhere it was deserved, including Quarterback, Offensive Line, Wide Receivers, Kicking, and Cornerback, but because he doesn't say the same shit every coach in the past has said, now he's off to a sarcastic "great start"? Instead, you wanted him to say it was his fault and he will make improvements, just as Todd Bowles said every fuckin loss? How about it is true, Darnold needed to play better. The offensive line was terrible. Wide receivers were not getting separation. The corners were essentially non-existent at times. And our kicker missed 4 total points and forced us to complete a 2 point conversion. Sounds like a pretty damn perfect analysis of the game. Not to mention, he stated that the 4th quarter is "nut cut time" and guys need to man up and complete a full game, not one half. And you blame him for getting testy with the media? LOL
If you watched yesterday's game and you think the coach deserves no blame and you're fine with the coach not taking even a little bit of the blame while tossing players under the bus, I don't know what to tell you. I'll just say there's a reason he got ditched in Miami and a reason he has a reputation. He tossed Robby right under the bus and we're wondering why all the Dolphins hated him? He's going to lose the locker room REAL quick if he keeps up this act. No shit players didn't execute. But you know god damn well if this was Todd Bowles and the game went exactly the same way it did, you'd be railing on Bowles for having a terrible gameplan and not having the team ready. It's ok to admit we may have fucked this hire up badly. We won't think less of you.
I didn't say Gase has zero blame for this loss. What I did say though, is that him sitting on the phone like a puppet blaming himself does NOTHING for what the other obvious issues were. Let's play this out. Let's say Gase said "it's my fault. I need to coach a better game". Would that have tickled your balls enough to make you smile? Instead, he laid out the facts. Stated he was wrong after watching the film about Sam Darnold. Said the offensive line play was poor. Said corners need improvement. Said kicker is a problem. Said wide receivers were not getting open. And said that losing Mosley can not cause us to fold and give up, like it seemed we did. Which part of his assessment was wrong? The part where he left out "it was my fault"?
and yet when the players were playing mini golf and grab ass during minicamp, you were right there telling us it was a great idea. They show up unprepared week 1 and you wonder why
Let's take a look at what Gase said today: 1. Asked if the offensive line struggles led to the offesnive issues: “Some of it was the O-line, but I would say if we read the coverages correctly with the receivers, some of that isn’t a problem.” So a dig at Darnold, which many on here agree with. Darnold needed to perform better yesterday. 2. Asked if Gase shares blame for the kicker issues: “Sure," he said." What do you want me to do? We haven’t performed well. We’re going to try to figure out a way to fix it. That’s what it is.” Oh look at that, taking blame. 3. Asked about Darnold's 6.25 ypc and the lack of downfield shots: “Yeah, if we just make plays on the balls that we actually threw down the field, that’s a different number," Gase said. "I mean, we had opportunities. We had a chance to win the game. We have to come out of our double move. The guy falls down and we don’t come out running. So if we do that, then all of a sudden we’re scoring a touchdown. Guys need to do a better job of executing what they’re supposed to be doing.” So pointing to a Robby Anderson problem that MANY on here have complained about for years. 4. Asked about the defense and cornerbacks: “I feel like we have some slight room for improvement," Gase said. "I’ll say that nicely.” Seems like an accurate assessment to me. 5. Asked about Jets energy in the 4th quarter: “We didn’t handle the fact that we lost our middle linebacker very well," Gase said. “That was something that we addressed today and basically we need to understand that when we lose somebody, the next guy has to step up. We can’t have any blowups, we can’t lose our mind.” Pretty damn on point here. “It’s just a collective effort. It’s like, ‘Just do your job.’ That’s the key,” Gase said. “When we hit the fourth quarter, when we hit nut-cut time, when it’s the time when things are really getting tough, when it’s really getting hairy, the best players don’t change. The players that make an impact in the fourth quarter, they don’t change – everyone else does.” Sounds like a lot of truth to me
