Jamal. The day we win the Super Bowl I'm changing the name of Gotham City from The Big Apple to Adam's Apple!
Right now it’s Adams hands down. He is the voice, the pulse of the team. I’d expect Sam to be more prominent as the season goes on. Sam’s doing a weekly on TMKS espn radio this season so that will propel him towards that role if he is what we think he is on the field. And he will be.
It almost brings a tear to my eyes to not only see Adams ahead but ahead by a lot. Also that Leonard Williams isn't even a option. I expected Darnold to be in the lead. A lotta knowledgeable fans here. *thumb up*
I think you guys are misunderstanding what a face of the franchise is. It's clearly Sam and the only other player close is Jamal Adams. It was Sam the minute Roger Goodell said "With the 3rd pick in the 2018 NFL Draft, the New York Jets select Sam Darnold, QB, USC." Adams has been outspoken and his time at the Pro Bowl got his name more nationally recognized. Both clearly leaders. One is the cornerstone of the offense, one is the cornerstone of the defense. The Jets are in transition though. A casual fan or person with little knowledge of the Jets likely wouldn't know who Sam or Jamal are at the moment.
exactly. Thats why I voted for Adam Gase. people are confusing leadership with "face of the franchise"... they are different concepts. Michael Vick was clearly the face of the Atlanta Falcons franchise but he obviously wasn't the team leader like Warrick Dunn was. If a Falcons fan was walking the streets of NY in 2005, everyone walking up to him would say "Falcons eh? Vick gonna take you to the playoffs?- "
Many of your posts have brought tears to a lot of us here. Albeit not for the same reasons you’re stating here
Sorry, I think you're the one who has it wrong. Just because he is a QB and was our #1 pick didn't automatically make him the face of the franchise. Was Sanchez the face of the franchise? Browning Nagle? Richard Todd? No Adams is the best player on the team right now. He is a leader. He has recruited FAs to come here. Sam will probably eclipse him with a very good or great year, but he won't eclipse him if he doesn't have a good year, and isn't there yet. Adams will always be up there very close to the top.
You definitely can't go wrong with either. Adams did get Bell here an offensive player. He stays late to sign autographs and says things other players wont say (we need dawgs statement).
face of the franchise isn't the same as the leader. often they are but not always. it's 2 different questions. it so happens that most of the time it's the same person and a QB but not always. like when the bucs won the SB against the raiders i'd argue gruden was the face of the franchise and brooks was the leader of the team. eagles fans are also the worst fans in sports. they thought mcnabb sucked meanwhile jets fans would have killed to have a QB like mcnabb. he took them to a SB and 4 NFC championship games. he broke his ankle in a game and continued to finish it and threw 4 TDs. he was a great QB, dawkins was an elite safety. but QB is just a position of higher respect and higher spotlight. another example is during the peterson era on the vikings, he was the face but not the leader of the team. calvin johnson was the face of the lions but stafford was the leader. barry sanders was the face of the lions in his day but not the leader. regardless of how fans felt about mcnabb he was the leader of the team and the face of the franchise, dawkins was just more loved by philly fans and a better player.
Adams is the face of the franchise. Omit the discussion about him being the "leader" of the franchise. McNabb was not the face of the franchise. Dawkins was the face of the franchise. His impact outweighed McNabb and was the true face. He was the motivator of that franchise, and he held people accountable. Example: https://bleacherreport.com/articles/133154-the-end-to-an-era-brian-dawkins BTW, we all know Eagle fans suck, but that doesn't change what is true.
Adams is clearly the best player right now, but the face of the franchise is to me clearly Darnold - he's the person whose name comes up when the Jets come up. The fact that Revis wasn't the face of the franchise when he was possibly the most dominant player at a particular position in the league shows how unlikely it is that a defensive player would be the face of a franchise. And no, of course it wasn't Sanchez then - it was Rex who was overwhelmingly the face of the Jets then.
your quote is form a nobody sports blogger on bleacher report lol that's like somone quoting one of us here on a forum as proof https://www.inquirer.com/philly/sports/eagles/Donovan_McNabb_retires_as_an_Eagle.html this is the words from eagles team owner Jeffrey Lurie. even the eagles owner called him the face of the franchise on top of that, even dawkins himself admits mcnabb was the leader The eagles sucked before mcnabb, he came in and turned them around. dawkins couldn't do that. mcnabb inspired the team and his teammates. it was only the fans that hated them because as we agree eagles fans are just awful
the only time i ever seen a defensive player be the face is if the QB sucked and it was an elite ILB or Pass rusher. Like von miller has been the face of broncos. I can't think of any DB ever being the face of a franchise regardless how dominant they were.
Jeffrey clearly just being nice because the guy is retiring. Remember when we said we were going to seperate leader from face? Any true fan or analyst would say Dawkins was the face and not McNabb. He IS the most beloved player in franchise history, that makes him the face IMO. McNabb wasn't the only reason the Eagles got better, he was instrumental but that doesn't make you the face of a franchise, especially when you have Andy Reid / Brian Westbrook. I will admit however, you can argue there were MULTIPLE faces of that franchise. Westbrook was one as well. That team had excellent locker room people.
To the Bolded, Kotite has that effect on a team. They were good for years prior with Cunningham at QB.
Quite simply because one has nothing to do with the other and because of that it makes no sense Unless youre saying the only highly paid players are the face of an org. Which would also make absolutely no sense. To the original question Adams now and probably always will be at least one of the faces of the team because hes the one who will provide the quotes and is the go to player for comments after games.
