Arm Strength and Accuracy are just 2 small pieces of the equation for QBs. For kickers its all that matters. The biggest determining factor in what makes a QB good or not is what’s in the head, not the arm. That is why they are the toughest to project out of college and are typically boom or bust. You cant see what you need to scout on game tape or combines.
Leg strength and accuracy are not all that matters for kickers. They also need, among other things, a quick run-up (or an early one but those are harder to time), the ability to chip it over the line, and the mental fortitude to deal with the loneliness of being a kicker. When you miss a kick in the pros, your college buddies won't be around to take your mind off it.
Don't beat yourself up over it; it seems like a lot of guys are retiring and then coming back lately.
good points! I don't think people realize the mental strength it takes to be an NFL kicker. you basically sit on the bench and do nothing all day. then are asked to come in and win a game with no time left that your teammates all fought 60 mins to give you the chance to do that and you have all the time in the world to realize the situation you are in and can't just react or let reflexes kick in. and if you make it it's like so what that is what you are paid for. you miss it and your teammates hate you
Yesterday my own Mother asked me "Do you think the Jets can fix their kicking problem by Week 1?" So I guess it really is a big problem if people who don't even watch much football are talking about it.
A chick from the US Soccer team nailed a 55 yarder at Eagles camp. Slap some shoulder pads over her bra and we could have a new kicker
You mean the one that told America to listen more and speak less and continued to speak for 30 minutes?
It is fair to say that Carli Lloyd is just as good of an option at kicker as Catanzaro or Bertolet are for the Jets. Probably better.
At least if she misses, watching her would be better than watching a guy kick. Sent from my SM-G965U using Tapatalk
Awesome kick by the former Rutgers Scarlet Knight and USWNTLGBT forward, however that 'FG' was more of a mini kickoff steps-wise. Hellava boot though... https://twitter.com/CarliLloyd
Breaking news, this just in: our kicker still sucks! You're the only person who got the incidental reference. I've been it using since Darnold was 'injured'. Sometimes I call him The Boot for short, but Shoe Booty it is.
Yeah was going to say that. I’m sure she could make one with proper orientation but she was like 8 yards back from the ball. The gunner breaks her leg on that kick. I’m also sure she wouldn’t get blown up on kick offs while not keeping her head on a swivel after kicking.
