For the record, an injury suffered in college does indeed qualify for the NFI list. As long as it's not NFL related. And even if the team pays the player, it's exempt from the cap. Unless he was moved from the NFI to pup, he can be put on NFI. Just can't return to NFI in the same league year. It's also a very common move to place an injured player who is drafted onto the NFI list. Especially when they are not expected to play the entire season. The salary issue are usually agreed upon during contract discussions prior to signing.
good call! actually kind of moot becuase i just seen the jets already have austin on the NFI list 3 months ago https://www.sfgate.com/sports/article/Jets-place-Maye-Bryant-on-PUP-Austin-on-NFI-list-14114906.php still the only difference is they can opt not to pay him if they choose to outside of that it's the same rules as the pup list. not sure which the jets opted to do
Im sure his agent negotiated that prior to signing. It's not too uncommon. I sat somewhere on one of the roster projections he was on the PUP earlier today. Not sure if it was an error by the writer or if he was moved. Either way, we need to find a viable starter or two .
