Oh no, 1/2 of my statement was exaggerated and you proved it so now my whole statement must be false. Take a guess at who the league leader in missed FGs + PATs was between the 2015 and 2017 seasons. I'll give you a hint, his initials are JM and had a massive outlier of a season.

Catanzaro only has his signing bonus guaranteed, so $500k.

500k to miss kicks for a month.

    Football players are so underpaid.

The thing that makes me sick to my stomach is the total, pathetic view by many a GM that a kicker position is really secondary in importance and thus not that valuable. Laughable. I can't think of how many games come down to a last second crucial field goal, a well placed kick or a must have extra point. This is a crucial edge that we can ill afford to give away.

Catanzaro is not long for this world.
Douglas will once again work w/Baltimore on a trade so Kaare Vedvik ends up on the Jets.

As we all know good kickers are hard to find. The Jets screwed this one up real good. Should have paid the guy. He was very consistent for us last year. Sometimes the decisions this team is mindboggling.

well I think in order for it to be considered an outlier, we have to see how he performs this year

I would have cut him on the field yesterday. Fucking guy will cost us a game or 2 if he makes the team.... Go get the backup in Baltimore. lol

He wouldn't be the first not to handle Metlife OR the TriState area in general. Some folks just don't have that in them... #pussy

No different than using a pick on one eventually.

Baltimore is going to either cut him or trade him, we might as well through them a late rounder to grab a very good kicker and not have to worry about it going forward.

Baltimore have already said they are trading him.

As they’ve already got our 7th, I don’t want to give them a 6th. Hopefully they will take a 2021 7th but I assume other teams need a kicker more badly than that. I think we’ll get someone off the waiver wire.

It is an outlier on what he has already achieved in all the other seasons he has been a kicker, this is why it is an outlier

Not necessarily, although I get your point. I think the thing that most supports the outlier argument is the performance of Andre Roberts in the same season, with the common factor being Brant Boyer. Macc was probably gambling on Boyer being able to catch lightning in a bottle with other unproven journeyman players.

Of course, this is assuming that Boyer's season wasn't also an outlier, as it was his third season as Jets ST coach and the only one that produced these type of results.

And why aren't the Jets willing to trade for him? So dumb.

Then again they showed how much they value special teams when they allowed their all pro returner and pro bowl kicker from last season to walk this offseason.

    I shouldn't be surprised.

Hey now... 5.5mil is far too much money for a reliable kicker. Field position means nothing. That's why we're trolling the waiver wires to find someone we can sign on the cheap. Kickers aren't worth the extra several wins they do with clutch kicks and pinning teams deep.

Seriously. When will everyone realize that it’s not about winning but doing your very very best. Cat shouldn’t be going anywhere.

Agree with those who say we should have kept Myers, but the Jets historically never spend money on kickers, so we shouldn't expect that to change. Nevertheless, before we dump Catanazaro, we should look at his record which isn't too bad. He has kicked well and sometimes very well at every stop along his short but varied career. Has a credible career FG% of 83. Better yet, he has made 10 of 16 attempts (62.5%) from 50+ yards including a 60 and a 57 (Jet record.) A kicker with that kind of range and accuracy can pay big dividends in a tight game with time running out. If he's going to have hiccups, let him have them now in preseason.
