McGuire isn't that good either, but he can catch and I would argue he's probably more durable in terms of carries in comparison to TY and Powell. Gonna be some interesting decisions.
I liked Trent when he was drafted because of his speed.. but at other football things, he's been bad. Hope Holmes makes the team. Hoping for Dortch too. White on white with green helmets and numbers was absolute FIRE!
Sure, our starter would have worked. The safety in question on that play was Santos Ramirez, who I'd never heard of until last night. Watch how late he is breaking to the ball even though Jones is staring in that direction from the moment he takes the snap. Anyway, Ramirez isn't going to make the team, but the fact that he was playing in the first quarter shows how thin we are in the secondary.
I agree, Cannon sucks. he's too small for the NFL to begin with and he supposedly has speed but he sure doesn't show it on the field
he's too busy slipping and falling down every time he tries to use it. Seriously he needs new cleats or something. dude looks like he's running on ice out there. he is really good on special teams though as a gunner and maguire and powell don't play special teams so that could save him. ty montgomery was a great dirt cheap find by mac. 1 year 805k only 90k guaranteed and he looks like our RB2 and a low budget bell
I couldn't see the game, but read the play-by-play on NFL.com. Supposedly, Cannon had a 36-yard KOR. That's a pretty good return. Was NFL.com mistaken? Was it really not him, but someone else?
Cannon is 5'11" and 185 pounds. Tarik Cohen is 5'6" and 179 pounds. Tyreek Hill is 5'10 and 185 pounds. Cannon isn't too small. He just sucks.
I totally agree on the lack of vision. On the kickoff and at Rb Cannon tends to run right at the defender(s).
My thoughts: A slight breeze could make Cannon fall down. Dortch looked really good on those routes for short yardage. What the reporters have been saying about Catanzaro is true. Although, I got a say a couple of those holds were shit. Secondary look TERRRRRIBLE. Multiple guys either jumping their assignments to try and make a play or getting beat by a simple juke. And that doesn't include just missing tackles in the open field. McGuire won't make the first cut. Sam's ability to make reads downfield is top level. That short series was enough to make the mouth water. I'd rather listen to my neighbor play Billy Ray Cyrus as full blast then ever have to listen to Carl Banks again.
he looked fine as a returner and really overall. he just slips and falls down everytime he makes a move with the ball. he's a good special teamer but unless he can keep his balance better, he can't make it as a RB
NFL Network cut to the Cardinals game at 10 eastern so I only saw the first two and half quarters. The only kickoff return I saw Cannon attempt was pathetic. He fielded the ball, gingerly moved toward the pile and then slipped down for about a 7-10 yard return. However, even at RB, he showed no vision or elusiveness despite several touches. Nothing against him. but he sucked last night from what I saw, other than a nice tackle on a punt return.
Must've missed that but basically what Tomdeb said in a later post is how I feel about Cannon. He's a one trick pony (not a very good one) and that won't be enough for a roster spot.
Sorry for the contrary opinion but Siemian looked like shit to me--dump off after dump off had the whole defense 6 yards from the LOS and no run available. We're dead if Sam goes down. The world is crazy to say he looked good. Anyone agree or am I on an island here?
I don't think it's so much that any of us are "worried" about Cannon. I think most of us didn't think he had any chance to make the team unless it was as the return man and gunner, and he's proving us right. There's not a whole lot else to talk about. Cannon lacks vision, talent and athleticism. He has straight line speed and that's probably it.
Regarding our backup RBs, they basically all struggled. Cannon and McGuire had the most carries but the exact same yards per carry - 2.2. What remains to be seen is how much of this is our O-line being poor run blockers. Its still too early to judge, and there was a lot of backups rotating on the line. But its certainly not a promising start. One thing is for sure, Bell ain't going to be runnin behind the kind of line he was used to in Pitt by a long shot. Its going to be interesting to see how deep down he can dig to make plays.
