Even the draft. College FGs are exactly the same as NFL FGs. If a college kicker has consistently made long kicks for 3 years in college, there's a great chance he can continue making the same kicks in the NFL. Yet if a team were to draft him, the GM gets killed. FG kicking is the only position that translates 100% directly to the NFL. Speed of the game, size of the NFL players, etc, means nothing to kickers. 1)Holder, 2)football, 3)uprights. that's it, and it's the same in college and the NFL. I never got how a great college kicker will go undrafted, and even after making team will get no love.
Well, since they grow on trees, every team has a great kicker. I would agree with you that the overall kicking is similar, but aren't there a few differences like where KO's are placed? The schemes are different in the kicking game no as far as coverages and such. The ball itself is different I think.. I could be wrong but just asking the questions....
Since they grow on trees I'm surprised how many teams have kickers that miss extra points and double doink balls off the cross bars to lose playoff games....maybe we need a bigger tree?
It's all mental with kickers, look at Roberto Aguayo, best kicker in NCAA history. Sucked in the NFL, Lutz was very good in New Orleans, terrible in college.
He was so good for us his first time around. But it's a mental game with these kickers and he's lost right now. Missed FG's galore throughout T.C and now already two missed Xtra Point attempts tonight? He seems mentally fkd...
Good thing we didnt resign our Pro Bowl kicker...the Jets seem to think they can replace special teams players with anyone off the scrap heap.Sorry guys it doesnt work that way.But atleast you saved some money!!This guy will lose us games...This situation needs to be fixed asap...Football games are won and lost because of kickers but the Jets dont value the position and its showing here.
