Not gonna lie, I’m not crazy about trading for a backup who was about to be cut, especially when we have the #3 waiver priority. Hopefully it’s a 7th.
Background on Lewis... he started 10 games before injury for the Ravens last year at LG. 27 years old, one year left on his deal. He figured to be a started for the Ravens this year before what everyone thought was a surprise release.
He was a starter from day 1 last year for Baltimore. Considering he's on the last year of his deal I wouldn't expect us to trade much more than a 6th, which I'd be fine with. Edit: There ya go
Good trade. Even if it's for depth purposes. Most 7th round picks don't stick anyway......and it proves Douglas is serious about building the OL even if it is just depth pieces for now.
I'm assuming the FO had some inclination that the Cards or 49ers were possibly monitoring his situation. Giving up a 7th rounder for a starting-quality lineman is a great grab. I don't know much about him besides him having good potential but also being injury prone.
How many 7th rounders are capable of starting in the NFL? This is a nice grab and provides more depth at a position that has been ignored for over a decade.
Love it. I can categorically stand behind this. Seven rounders are a crap shot, seven rounders OL even more so. Have we not experienced under Mac what late round OL draft choices bring to the table......not much.
Winters is a solid player. No way Lewis comes in and takes his job from him this late. It's a depth move considering the Qvale injury, and a good one at that.
Best way to keep your job in the NFL as a GM? Don’t neglect the OL. Douglas has done just as much for the OL in 1 week as Mac did in 4 YEARS LOL.
$6 million is a lot of money for Brian Winters. He's not tied to the current regime & especially if they are still trying to make moves.
we needed depth and I could care less about the 7th round pick hopefully this guy can play but in the next breath I wish we would just trade for Williams
