General rule: if the Patriots are interested in trading assets for a player you should also be interested in that player. Get him, Joe.
Duane Brown went for a 2 and a 5 not too long ago. Question is compensation. What would be the right value? I'd give them a 3 and a conditional pick. I don't know about a first or 2nd rounder.
Williams has more value than Brown had. He was an 8 game rental , Williams has 2 years remaining. The Brown trade was pretty messed up, it originally included Jeremy lane who failed his physical and then was renegotiated to Seattle receiveving Brown and a 2018 fifth round draft pick, in exchange the Texans receiveved a third-round pick in 2018 and second-round pick in 2019,
Yeah, I just don't know if I would trade a 1st or 2nd for Williams. Jets still have a lot of pieces to fill. Surely we will be looking at C, CB and every other offensive line position come draft day.
I agree, just clarifying the trade value. I think he will fetch a second and third, possibly 2 seconds. Definitely has more value than Brown did at the time of his trade. Arguably a better player with 4 times longer remaining on his contract
How highly ranked is Trent Williams? (Athlon Sports ranks him as the #12 OT). Even if he is already 31, it would seem like Washington wouldn't be willing to trade him for less than a 2nd, but if Williams had said that he refused to ever play for the Redskins and didn't report to camp, they'd lose leverage. I think Williams did report to camp, however, although I could be mistaken. Whatever the case, I hope that Douglas has called Washington and inquired about the cost. If Williams is very good and it was just for a second, I'd strongly consider it and may even pull the trigger. If he kept Sam healthy for at least 4 years and helped mentor Edoga or another rookie the Jets drafted in the 3rd round next year or in a higher round in 2021, it would be worth it. Keeping Sam healthy is that important. We could still take a WR or CB with our 1st round pick next year, and the other of those two positions or a C in the 3rd round. There will also undoubtedly be some quality CBs, WRs or Cs available in FA next year. Among the CBs who are potential FAs in 2020 are: Ronald Darby, Bradley Roby, Eli Apple, Eric Rowe, Trae Waynes, Jonathan Jones, Byron Williams, PJ Williams, EJ Gaines, Rashaan Melvin, Marcus Peters, Artie Burns, Mackenzie Alexander, and Cyrus Jones. Among the Cs who are potential FAs in 2020 are: Rodney Hudson, Mike Pouncey, Nick Martin, Jc Tretter, and Cody Whitehair. There are also quite a few guys who are in their mid-20's who could be available. I don't know if they're any good or not. WRs who could potentially be available are: Amari Cooper, Geronimo Allison, Phillip Dorsett, Nelson Agholor, and Josh Gordon.
Williams is one of the best left tackles in the game and has reportedly refused to ever play another down for Washington because of mismanaged medical issues.
Thanks! Yes, I googled him and Athlon Sports ranks him as the 12th best tackle in the game. If he can play 4 more years at a pretty high level, it might be worth giving up our 2nd round pick for him. I checked out potential FAs next year at CB, WR and C. The odds are pretty good that we could sign a C and CB or two in FA, and if we had Williams in the fold as LT, then we could use our #1 on a #1 WR prospect or OL , then use our 3rd on a WR, C or OG.
Raiders waived Donald Penn after they signed Pats FA Trent Brown. Redskins just signed Donald Penn today to a one year contract. Question is how much $ is Washington planning on paying Penn. As good as he is, Trent Williams does have a little bit of a 'dinged up' history and at 31 I'd offer a 4th (and at most a 3rd). .
Pats gonna play the comp pick game. Trey Flowers and that left tackle will surely give them some nice picks. Jets 3rd probably has better value.
More than a little. Hasn't played a full season in years. I believe 2013 was his last full season. Can count on Williams missing 3-4 games per year.
'lil' figure of speech; the 'dinged up' part was the gist. Point is, as good as he is I'm not dropping a higher end pick on a dinged up 31 yr. old. This team's still a year (or two) away from fleshing out the roster and outside of a can't miss offer saving draft picks will be key. .
