Lmao, bro. We haven't even properly developed a QB in my life time. How are we going to do this with a backup hahaha.

Yessir. The reason it worked out for Garoppolo is he was coached up to take the reigns (time and effort not normally put into a BU). And it worked out great for NE. Brady kept playing, Garoppolo gets traded for a ransom.

So right there's the blueprint. If we have the coaching staff and determination to develop our BU like he'll be taking the reigns in a yr or two, then do it. Then trade him for a ransom to a needy team, and start over. An excellent way to pick up an extra 1st every 3 years!

Plus if you spend resources to develop your BU, you'll know pretty quick if he's a dud. If so, cut him quick and start over with a new BU.

Uhh the Giants haven’t been known for making smart moves the last couple years. I think 80% has to do with Eli. I think the owner is protecting him or something. Webb was a 3rd rounder wasn’t he? It’s not like he an UDFA nobody.

They must have a smart, experienced GM up there.

First of all, the Pats got a second rounder for Garoppolo, not a first. Second, Garoppolo was the best non-Brady QB the Pats developed in 20 years and the only one who might be a good starter. Developing and trading backup QBs is just not something that regularly happens.

They also used 3 of their own picks to get those players, I think a 2nd, a 3rd and a 4th, to move around. They didn't just use that one 2nd round pick to get those 6.

Basically it was one player, Garoppolo, and 3 picks to get 6 players.

They did use 3 of their picks, here's the entire breakdown:

Patriots trade Garoppolo to Niners for 2018 No. 43 pick
Patriots trade No. 43 to Detroit Lions for 2018 No. 51 and No. 117 picks
Patriots trade No. 51 to Chicago Bears for 2018 No. 105 pick and 2019 No. 56 pick
Patriots trade No. 105 to Cleveland Browns for 2018 No. 114 and No. 178 picks
Patriots trade No. 114 to Lions for 2019 No. 73 pick
Patriots draft LB Christian Sam with 2018 No. 178 pick
Patriots trade 2018 No. 62 (own pick) and No. 117 for No. 56 pick, draft CB Duke Dawson
Patriots trade 2019 No. 73 to Bears for No. 87, No. 162 and 2020 fourth-rounder
Patriots trade 2019 No. 56 and No. 101 (own pick) to the Los Angeles Rams for No. 45 pick, draft CB Joejuan Williams
Patriots draft RB Damien Harriswith 2019 No. 87 pick
Patriots trade 2019 No. 97 (own pick) and No. 162 to Rams for No. 101 and No. 133, draft OT Yodny Cajuste and QB Jarrett Stidham
Patriots still own Bears 4th round pick in 2020.

So they traded Garrapolo for a very high second pick, then traded down multiple times and ended up with 5 mid and low round picks. They then packaged those 5 with 3 of their own to select a bunch of guys that will likely wash out or be back ups and cheap labor for a few yrs. Maybe they get lucky on a couple and end up with serviceable or better players. Time will tell

If Mac had done this guys would be screaming for his scalp because he could have taken one “ difference maker” with the high 2
They do things differently for sure

Except your ignoring Belichicks history of turning late round picks into Super Bowl champions

I mean he turned everyone on the entire roster into super bowl champions right? including their no.1 draft picks...
your statement says nothing about the development of the individual players

every team has late round picks, the Patriots just happened to win 6 superbowls. so their late round picks are Super Bowl champions and the Jets late round picks aren't. astute observation

But after starting for Denver Siemien doesn't play under the same requirements. Or he would have still been in Minny. Would still be backing up Cousins.
And if course if 3rd round pick Weeb developes into more than another QB, why would we keep him? Oh, because the same group of morons who screwed up the draft with Jones cut him. The same group is idiots that drafted their other replacement for Eli last year.

    Makes no sense. At all

Because, let's see first. Is the HC new? A guy from the O side of the ball? The QB coach maybe? No. What g about the OC?

Everything is new, no one has track record here that I give a shit about.

Except the majority of his picks are mid- late round picks and they have dominated the NFL for nearly 2 decades. The Patriots know how to find and develop talent. Your just fooling yourself if you don't see it....

Think of what a 2nd round would have meant in this last draft...
