https://www.google.com/amp/s/profoo...d-trevor-siemian-on-the-jets-depth-chart/amp/ Interesting turn of events.Seemed like Gase wasn’t exactly enamored w the QB depth chart behind Darnold when he arrived. Curious where Luke Falk fits into this equation..
Hopefully not. When you have a franchise QB all you want is a backup with experience who can come in and run the offense if need be. Webb is a high upside developmental guy who would’ve been nice as a backup in the pre-Darnold days to turn to late in the season and see what he can do. But now that we have Sam I’d much rather have the backup be a guy who’s started in the league (Trevor) who can step in and start 2-3 games if needed (God forbid). We’re fucked if he missed more than that anyway.
Maybe we should develop Sam's BU and then trade him after 2-3 years for great draft pics...then start over with a new kid. Kind of like NE did with Garoppolo. So draft a 4th-5th round QB as Sam's BU. Work hard bringing him up to NFL speed (versus treating him like an afterthought). Let him fill in for Sam (injury) a game or 3 at different times in his development. Then trade him to a QB needy team for a future 1st. Maybe a future 1st and a 3rd. Then start over with a new kid. It would have to be a commitment by the coaching staff to coach this kid up, and a commitment by the GM to trade him in 3 years for a haul. If Gase really is a QG guru, and if Sam really does well and gains tons of respect, then his BU who's shown promise of his own would go for a great return. Make this strategy part of our team mission!
FG lets work on OL before we think we are able to develop players though I am completely for the idea cause it could turn into OL
While we're at it, maybe we should just win every single football game by 50 points until the sun explodes.
If Webb could play he'd still be on the Giants. Siemian as a former seventh round pick has already proven to be a overachiever in the NFL. I can't envision Webb beating him (or anyone else) out for that spot.
if you decide on Siemian and try to put Webb on the practice squad, you will lose him. If they are close in camp, I'd keep Webb in a heartbeat. it will be interesting to watch in camp
3 unnecessary references to the XFL in one small blurb and the league doesn't even kick off for a year (if it doesn't fold before then) is Florio an investor or something?
I think that Webb is more talented and has more potential, so I would love it if he beats Siemian out if they're just keeping two QBs. Who cares if it would cost more? Only loser teams keep a worse player to save money, unless they are severely tight against the cap. That said, I think the Jets are nuts if they don't keep 3 QBs on the roster. Either Siemian or Webb would be signed off the PS if they even cleared waivers in the first place. QBs go down with injuries every season. We've already seen a Jets season where we lost two QBs in one game, and wound up having to start our 3rd string QB for an extended period of time. We saw another potential SB season go down the drain because our genius HC didn't even have a backup QB on the roster to begin the season, then after our starting QB went down in the first game of the season, signed a lousy backup, and stuck with him until it was too late. Even though I think Sam is going to be a star, there are no guarantees. If Webb is better than Siemian, he should be kept. In addition, as FootballGod said we could always trade Webb down the road if he does develop. If they are pretty even by the end of TC and both play well in preseason, who knows, the Jets may get a good trade offer for one of them, especially if another team's starting QB has gone down with a serious injury. They could probably safely stash Falk on the PS. Even though his arm has supposedly gotten stronger, I still don't think he has an NFL arm, at least not one for the Northeast in the winter.
