Generational talent is a subjective term. Personally I think all 3 of those guys qualify under my definition. Klecko should be in the Hall, it’s a travesty. Gastineau, like him or not, changed the game. And Abraham was a bitch like Gastineau here but you said it yourself, he was one of the best pass rushers of his “generation”
Or more pathetic than to not be able to control yourself and stop. Not knowing when it's over isn't a virtue
Generational talent is as overused a moniker as Super Model. SBarkley is a generational RB. So was Gurley. So was Zeke. And Bell. And AP. How many generational players can there be at one position? Also, they don't have to be drafted. Using a 1st and 3rd can get you one like Curtis Martin. When you retire as the 3rd or 4th all time yardage leader, you're generational.
A sack dance isn't game changing. Klecko was border line. Granted the HOF is mostly the Hall of very good but Klecko was never a slam dunk HOF player. The problem with Abraham while he was a great pass rusher. Again he had several mediocre years and was an all pro twice. FYI in my opinion Winston Hill was the best Jets player not in the HOF. You simply can't ignore the fact that guys like Deacon Jones, Reggie White, Bruce Smith, Gino Marchetti, Lee Roy Selman, J.J. Watt, Jack Youngblood, Michael Strahan and Carl Eller actually played DE in the National football league. I'm even leaving out guys like Julius Peppers...
I've already seen enough of Leonard Williams to know he's not a Hall of Fame player. Jamal Adams looks like he could be a generational, Hall of Fame type player it's still very early but the talent and characteristics are there. Sam Darnold & Quinnen Williams it's way too early to say of course that's the hope.
Here's the video: Imagine how different New York Jets franchise history would be if the idiots in the crowd those days had been at the controls in the Jets war room instead of the paid professionals. A 50 years long Super Bowl drought? I say no way Jose!
Interesting response to my post which said that any of the players I mentioned, minus Darnold, I said are capable of winning a SB. You could put any one of those players on last years Pats team and they would still have won the SB. Point being they dont have to be HOF players to win a SB.
No question this team has to draft better, but if you followed the discussion I was replying to, the argument made was that any one picked top 10 has to be a generational talent or they should cut. You need quality players throughout the roster to succeed. Generational talent is the goal, but rarely available and not necessary to win a championship
Just keep proving you lack any knowledge of the game. Can't wait to read your repeated postings on how we won but the refs stole the game come the season
I did follow the discussion and I think you were proven at best half right. While I personally think the HOF recognizes very good players not necessarily generational players it's pretty clear that most SB teams have drafted very high quality players on their SB teams. Many of them will go into the HOF. Including Von Miller, Richard Sherman, Richard Seymour, etc., etc., etc.... The Jets have rarely drafted HOF players and they have done a terrible job of drafting solid players to build on it.
And there is absolutely no truth that those great draft picks have to come and only can come from the top 10. Richard Sherman was what a 5th round pick? The original point was that top of the draft picks HAD to become generational players. He then spun into HOF players. And then spun into its needed to become a SB winning team. Spun that iinto SB winning teams have lots of these typed. Then spun it into not taking Sapp......
Tebow was a business decision, not a football decision, kind of like a bobble head night; they were trying to sell PSLs. I don't know if it was Johnson or somebody in the business end of the organization who was really responsible for that hiring. I agree with you about Hess and Kotite, but that was a long time ago.
Agree. Unless you believe Rex and Westhoff, both who have said that the only reason they brought Tebow in was to be the wildcat guy. Nothing more. They say that they saw what he was able to do from time to time running the offense like that would make for another weapon. Westhoff then went on to say until camp. When after seeing him actually play they couldnt believe how bad he was. Hess's decision becomes harder to understand after Kotite was such a absolute failure. Carol sucked here. He had a talented team and couldnt get them past the fake snap game against the fish. Then to make it worse the team flat out quit on Carrol down the stretch, losing 5 straight. The final straw that finished Carrol off was supposedly that on the return flight from Houston after their last game, Carrol and players were surfing down the planes aisles on takeoff riding on food trays. Hess was on the flight, saw this and was mortified apparently. He didnt fire Carrol for Kotite but did fire him knowing he had a coach available who worked here, was a great guy apparently and was somewhat successful as the HC in Philly. Scary part is how well I remember this crap
I'm just saying when you strip away all the hyperbole the Jets bad record and bad drafting aren't a coincidence. We rarely draft generational talent. We rarely draft HOF talent. We rarely draft all pro talent and we often draft outright busts.
Other than they've won a championship and they sell out, finishing number two in attendance a year ago. And of course if you are a whiney, SOJF who thinks everyone is luckier or better than we are
It would be wonderful if big Joe Douglas can rise above the Jets cursed history. I mean c'mon...we gotta get it right eventually...right?
