Lehner really ended up getting screwed this year. Once the Islanders decided they weren't interested in him there wasn't anything left for him to pursue. Now he's forced to have another one-year prove it deal. I hope he has a great season, although I'm not particularly a fan of the Black Hawks.
Seems pretty clear that the plan is for Greiss to go next year and be replaced by Sorokin. Supposedly he and Varlamov are good friends.
Team right now is exactly the same so unless these guys learned how to suddenly score goals we are in trouble ! Still no finishers on the team and just because the power play has a new coach that does not mean once again that these guys will miraculously start scoring goals. I hope and pray that Lou is NOT DONE and that this lineup gets tweaked but we will be looking at another 1st or 2nd round exit with this group. The coach can only do so much he needs some talent. Maybe they are hoping that some of the younger guys take the next step but as grandpa used to say wish in one hand and shit in the other. Lou had better swing a deal and free up some money and get us a damn finisher or more talent this team NEEDS IT !!!!! As far as Lee I would have let him walk , and I said it before and I will say it again I am shocked that Eberle, Nelson and Lee are all back as I would have let 2 of them go possibly all 3. Lets see how the rest plays out
I'm putting the best spin I can on it, since otherwise giving Varlamov a four-year contract makes no sense. This has been a terrible offseason. I think making the playoffs next year is far from assured with this team.
We are in a tough spot. Our long term potential depends on building on a foundation, which means keeping the guys we resigned and adding to them. But we have Ladd and Boychuk taking up $11 million which prevents us from doing so, leaving us to have to bring up young guys and hope they are what we hope they will be.
