How many teams have QB mentors? Most teams go with this concept called coaches for that sort of thing.

McCown has already served his purpose for the Jets and Sam's career. I don't see a need for him in this new Adam Gase era. However, if Sam wants the Jets to pay McCown so he can hang out with his Uncle Josh, I say do it. Whatever makes Sam happy.:)

Special advisor? As a player I don't believe McLoser ever won more than eight games in a season.

I don't think the Jets need a 'special adviser' to figure out how to win eight games in a season.

    Pass.

Again... Doug Pederson won 3 games total as a starter. Luckily the Eagles don’t use elementary school logic.

What do you need him to teach Sam? How to lose?

    It could be beneficial.

    1) Sam is still very young, especially in NFL years. He's not even started a full season yet. There's TONS of formations, fronts, strategies, etc, Sam's never seen. Having a trusted vet who's not only seen things, but played against them could be valuable for Sam's development.

    2) Teams are in a 'win NOW' mode. We need our near-rookie QB to play like a seasoned vet. The more 'good info' he has coming into his ears, the faster he can develope.

    3) If Josh is ever highered in this capacity, I assume Gase, Sam, and Josh would talk constantly. After Gase laid out the 'path forward' for the day/week, Sam (with Josh in his ear) would work to make it happen on the field. Josh would hear what Sam hears from Gase, and could be by Sam's side helping Sam progress.

    4) Gase could even explain to Josh what he wants Sam to learn/do/become/work on, and then turn Sam over the Josh to make it happen, with Gase looking over his shoulder from time to time to evaluate progress. Gase has a whole team to run, he can't shadow Sam every minute of the day like Josh could.

A C+ player like Josh (and Fitz) who manage to survive in the NFL 10 years are probably smarter than an A+ player who never really had to work all that hard. Josh could be a gold mine for Sam's 'quick' development.

The dream is dead. In all honesty though, he's probably going to be great on-air.

I guess if you think it will be useful to have him as a mentor to Sam...but Darnold is plenty mature enough with his head screwed on straight and doesn't need a veteran to show him the ropes anymore. That was last year and McCown did his job. Now it's time for Sam to do things on his own.
