Maybe poster Wackenburg is on to something with the players name dictating his career.

The minicamp phase of the Chicago Bears' kicking competition got off to a poor start, and one of the contestants is already out.

The team announced Wednesday that they waived Chris Blewitt, one of the three kickers in minicamp competing for the job.

During Tuesday's session all three kickers -- Blewitt, Eddy Pineiro, Elliott Fry -- missed kicks from 40-plus yards, back-to-back-to-back.

Every headline writer in America is hoping he catches on somewhere and misses a big kick.

A while back , I decided to stack all my football kicker cards into a separate group.
They'e the ones who score all the points and get no credit! It's a trip down memory lane, pulling all those cards.

    Speaking of kickers.
I've been punting footballs in the back yard.
I'm Never going to kick far. But at least it works out the legs and hips.

90% of punting is the drop - practice the drop. (ball should bounce back and slightly to your right...if you're 'consistent' good you should be able to do it while walking).

But how is the ball angled when dropped?
Slightly down, pointing slightly left? Or not?

Assuming you're a righty, the front of the ball (furthest away from you) is pointed slightly to the left and slightly down (the better to expose the 'fat sweet spot' to your instep at contact). One very important part of the 'drop' to bear in mind: the ball will react/respond to the last thing touching it...meaning that you have to concentrate on each finger releasing the ball simultaneously (a common mistake is to have the thumb stay in contact with the left side of the ball a little later than the other fingers causing the front tip of the ball to 'swing' too far to the left while the ball's in the air which results in the punter's foot hitting the front end of the ball, resulting in a feeble shank off to the right.

This is what I would say to Doug Brien if I ever had the opportunity to meet him.
