Polite and Edoga were UDFA if Macc wasn't doing the drafting. He mailed it in big time. Not a fan of Williams either. That was a position we did not need at all.
Champ Kelly would be a great get as director of personnel(Assistant director w Detroit) or even assistant GM.Hes great on the pro side while Douglas is more in line w college.
Gotta wonder how much Joe Douglas can really change the roster to make it into his own image? Mac spent a lot of money on a lot of players. Invested high draft picks in a lot of players. Looks like the core of the roster will have to remain mostly the same for the next couple years, but Douglas will still be able to do a lot to make the roster better. The core wasn't really Mac's problem. It was the rest of the roster.
I assume it will be kind of a fresh start like Gase has given the team. If guys like Polite and Edoga play hard on their rookie contracts, I assume they will be rewarded.
Cimini again with the "character concerns?" People repeated the hell out of that about Polite but the more you dug, the less you found. For Edoga, I think it was one incident of shoving a ref's hands away during a very small scuffle with opponents in his sophomore year. Good citizen award since then. It's not surprising that such non-events get played up here if the "professionals" can't keep from repeating them.
Douglas is the best and right choice, but a 6 year deal for someone who has never been a GM? That’s insane. I hope this works out.
This post is a reason for the board to think about getting a dislike or a down vote button. We can only like a post I want to dislike this one
This year Gase/Williams put us in playoff contention. Next year Douglas reshapes the OL to push us into the playoffs and we win the division. Year after Darnold takes the Elite leap, we add the pass rusher, #1 Corner and WR needed to bring us to the Super Bowl.
Insane? To get the guy you want? It may be overly optimistic but you can still fire the guy if he doesn't work out; all you lose is money that doesn't count against the cap. The Jets have lost plenty of money that does over the years. The only thing I know about Douglas is what I read in the funny papers but a six year contract is definitely a sign of mutual confidence.
That may be another reason for his long contract demands....outside DB and Center, our roster is jaked for the next 3-4 yrs. Our FA budget is gone, and if all goes right we'll be drafting late in each round. It will be a while before Douglas can land any impact players.
