I think this belongs on this forum merely because this would be a huge move for the Jets. It would of course help if we had a GM in place, but getting a guy like Williams at LT would be a huge get. Beachum is fine and all, but the position needs an upgrade in my opinion. So my question is, would you want the Jets to acquire him?
Better than Beachum yes. He'd help but he's 30 and I think coming off injury so at the right price. If he played guard or center I'd do it but Beachum not great is our most consistent linemen we have. To me a lateral move. Doesn't make us great.
Reportedly this isnt even over money. He apparently had some sort of tumor on his head (not serious) and is really livid with the way the organization handled him during that. So i guess he kind of is a head case? Just not a mental one.
Struggling with this. Better than beachum Lateral move The two dont align to me. Beachum could be consistent and that's great, and if Trent goes down, then beachum slides in. Wouldn't you want Beachum as a backup to given his lesser overall talent?
Ideally I'd slide Beachum to RT in the situation. I'm not opposed but at this point in Williams career not sure how much better he is and the injuries scare me. I'd do it but not at the top of my list. I'd prefer a center or cb. We'll see of GM Gase does it or the first move for the new GM.
He started his career as a RT for the Steelers, but hasn't played there since his rookie season. Bottom line comes down to: is he better than Shell at RT? Paying a guy 9.5 mil to ride the pine doesn't seem like the best financial decision, but that's still a very good salary for a LT. Why can't a damn C be unhappy somewhere?!
For that matter, start Williams at LT and start Beachum at RT or vice versa. Both are better than Shell.
I'll give them a 6th round pick at best, Williams is an upgrade over Beachum, but Beachum playing RT scares me. He is horrible in run blocking.
Tomorrow's headline: Jonotthan Harrison unhappy with Jets for starting him and making him humiliate himself.
It actually is an interesting situation. He turns 31 this upcoming July, - but seems like LTs have some mileage left (Donald Penn 35, Joe Staley turns 35 before season, Jason Peters 36/37, Andrew Whitworth 36). I keep thinking of a scenario where we let Beachum go w/his $8 million salary (all savings) along with Brian Winters + his $6.5 million salary and then we get Trent Williams. We'd even have some room to re-work his 2yr salary. But it would require a good draft pick, --- & I don't want to part with those.
Definitely want to hold onto them. . 2020 draft is loaded at WR with some OT talent as well (albeit some top-tier OTs come with red flags, e.g, Smith, Adams). .
If i was the jets i'd offer washington a trade and give them beechum and a late pick. Washington gets a downgrade obviously and a little bit of a cap hit but gets an extra pick and gets rid of a disgruntled player and gets a proven starter back in return. for the jets it's a great move and an upgrade. they are around the same age but beehcum is a FA after this season and Williams is locked in for one more year in 2020 which helps us a lot since we don't have much cap room next year and beechum, shell, and qvale are all free agents and the only possible starting T we have on the roster is rookie udoga. Williams will cost the jets 1.5mil extra in cap space this season and around 12.5 mil next year which is reasonable.
I feel Williams is a fairly comparable player to Beachum, at most a marginal upgrade. Could be wrong though. Out of curiosity anyone have PFF numbers on these two guys for the last couple years?
