Can they fire Gase instead? Really would that be any crazier than firing the GM in May and giving a HC that hasn't won anything total control? Sure it'd make the Jets look like they don't know what they're doing but they're already there. Fire Gase. I'm serious. Try again next year.
Arians would never have taken the Jets' job. He's very close with Bowles. I would have been very happy with Monken. That's who I wanted to get the job. Maybe we can hire him in 2 years if Gase fails. He's right John "Mr. Peepers" Clayton has been irrelevant for years.
I fear this will happen. Gase to me seems like a guy I want my guys and if you're not you're out of here. It's May. Might be too late for it this year but come January I wouldn't be shocked if some of our core is gone (Leonard Williams, Henry Anderson, Bell, Maye or Adams, Jenkins etc). It'll be typical Jets. We have some pieces to build around and we'll just trade them all.
Get nothing? We might be getting a Sam centric, pass first offense that Gase has envisioned since coming here. Gase might not be thrilled with a run first offense that goes through Bell. 100% speculation, but if Gase really didn't want Bell, and might be willing to trade him, this might be the reason. Sam's arm vs Bell's legs.
I 'think' if Bell stays, the signing bonus (which is can be 50% of a contract) is pro-rated through the life of the contract. If that same player is cut/traded, the signing bonus is accelerated into the cap of the year he's cut.
Man I hope not, cause if that's the way we roll, if he starts exiting good ones...... I'm done. I will become strictly a college football fan.
I have not heard or read anything by John Clayton the entire off season and I read as much NFL article as anyone until now. That's all I got to say about his opinion on this. Mod, this thread should be closed as to not waste another bit on the server your using to store this site.
Yes, this is stupid.... the JETS are NOT going to take the accelerated cap hit from his signing bonus before he even takes the field!
Yup. Nothing wrong with using Bell while the new staff 'assess' Sam's progress. Is Sam really ready to carry the team in a high octane, pass first offense? I know the NFL is becoming an Arena League passing game, but there HAS to be good value in a player like Bell. Can't understand why any coach would opt not to have him on the field. That's why I'm hoping all this anti-Bell stuff is just bad rumors.
This is such fuckin horse shit. I got this update when the article came out and immediately wrote it off as horse shit. Moving on.....
this would be next levels of insane if we did. 1st off we only have pretty much 0 cap space once we sign our rookies. cutting bell means we lose 25 mil in dead cap less his 9 mil it means we need to free up 14mil just to trade him 2 that opens up a huge hole at RB (leaving maguire and cannon only) hurts sam, and opens another hole due to cap issues. If gase does this i will be on the fire gase train right away. lets trade away the best offensive talent the jets have had in over a decade before he plays 1 down for the jets and eat a huge cap hit that causes us to shed more talent
I don't often agree with you, but if this happened, I would be right next to you on the Fire Gase Train.
John Clayton was on the radio in Buffalo just now. He has a lot of things to say about the Jets. He was defending the Darron Lee trade saying that a 5th or 6th round pick is the “going rate” for players like him, former 1st rounders that teams move on from in that last year of the rookie deal, citing a handful of similar trades. The biggest issue for trade is the guaranteed money that leads to teams getting less. He said that the Jets had that 6th round offer for awhile but Maccagban was holding out for a 5th, and wasn’t getting it. Gase just pulled the trigger on the trade Macc already discussed
Covert Dolphins Operation "Gasepocalypse" is nearly complete! Edit: Well, that was supposed to start playing at 1:00.
