Actually that's not true. Owners are people (contrary to reports), and are affected by bad publicity. Of course they aren't moved to do anything about it as say a politician, but they DO eventually respond to the pressure. The problem is that the Johnsons are idiots, and as the Cimini article lays out, they've done the most damage with their bad decisions, chiefly forcing a bad marriage between their GMs and HCs - TWICE! - IN SUCCESSION! People with even average intelligence rarely make the same mistake twice (unless drugs or alcohol is involved), but these morons are serial mistake makers! Unless they suddenly find a cure for idiocy, or the Johnson Boys decide to sell (they won't), we're doomed.
How is the bad publicity affecting the Wilpons? Are they selling? Are they increasing payroll? They're keeping David Wright--who has basically retired--on the 40 man roster to save money. Toronto just cut troy Tulu and his $30 million because they said fuck it, not worth it. Not the Wilpons. They aren't responding to pressure. Hiring Vanderschlagen was a ruse, a way to make idiotic Met fans to look elsewhere rather than the fact that the mets will have a small market payroll in the biggest market in the sport. They may be people but they do not care. If the Wilpons cared about being embarrassed they would have sold already. The Mets are laughing stocks, the Wilpons are laughing stocks but they will never sell. And they won't spend to fix the issues--in a sport where there is no real cap on spending. If the Johnson's gave a shit bout being embarrassed, about being idiots, the bumbling owners of a laughing stock franchise, they would have already sold. They'll fire Bowles this year because it's time but it should have happened last year. No, the pressure did not get to them. Who's a bigger idiot than James Dolan? You think he's selling? We only THINK they care about being embarrassed. The millions they are making is one hell of a salve for embarrassment.
All valid points, but while they may not respond in the manner and time frame you or I want, they eventually DO respond. Hiring Vanderschlagen might be a ruse, but it was also done because they felt they had to do something. I can't disagree that they're terrible owners, nor that we're likely stuck with them, and bitching about them may not change any of that, but it does let off a little steam.
I guess that's my point. Let off all the steam we want. No amount of flying banners or ineffective boycotts or bags over heads will change anything. You know what's going to change this franchise? Sam Darnold. If he becomes who we think he is, then in 10 years we're going to hail the Johnson's as the best owners in NY.
Looks like they were killing their fan base, too. https://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/breaking-johnson--johnson-knew-13733978 Although I do believe Woody the rube has no connection to this part of the family business. No idea about Christopher.
Maybe they'll have to sell soon ... "Johnson & Johnson, the biggest decliner in both the Dow and S&P 500, had its worst day in over 15 years after a Reuters report said the company knew its baby powder "was sometimes tainted with carcinogenic asbestos." Disappointing economic data in China also fueled the sell-off." https://www.axios.com/stocks-end-week-lower-df403571-7f61-4b8f-b9ea-9cab4dc6b176.html
Woody's stock ownership in J & J is a very small portion of his net worth and he's not a director or executive officer of the company. He has no personal liability to the company or it's shareholders (he probably has a derivative claim against the company's board and executive officers himself based upon him being a shareholder). This is not going to have any impact on him as owner of the Jets. He's very diversified.
Maybe they'll be part of a huge class action suit and be forced to liquidate their holdings in J&J OR sell the Jets to pay off the suit.
OR theyre forced to liquidate their holdings including allocated funds tied to Jets player salaries yet DONT sell the team & we have our very own version of the madoff scandal
I agree They won’t sell but they don’t like embarrassment Even the Mets have now changed it up For better or worse Plus they were broke for a while
Lol yep We cheer we root and if this turns dumpster fire we raise money not to fire Gase We raise money to rent a billboard with “SELL THE TEAM” Sincerely all Jets fans everywhere I hope it doesn’t come to it. (But we know it will)
To be honest... I was alienated by the new uniforms. Ugly ass football I'm used to. Ugly ass uniforms is an atrocity I have a hard time dealing with.
so they alienate the fan base by not firing anyone and now they are alienating the fan base after by firing the guy everyone wanted fired?
