As you and others have said, it is pointless to try to pin this on any one player. There is no one on the team who should be satisfied with his performance today, including both players and coaches. This game was a complete stinker, and I'll be shocked if in tomorrow's Newsday they don't get an "F" grade in every category on their game report card (well, maybe not special teams, which were okay, I guess).
I thought the WRs did a fine job today. Cotchery had a drop on a poorly thrown ball behind him on the first series that he probably could've brought in but other then that I'm not sure what more they could've done. There seems to be a disconnect between people that watch the game on TV where they see Chad checking down all game long and assume that no one is open and the people watching at the stadium that can see that people were getting open and Chad either wasn't looking their way or was afraid to throw it downfield. For example on the last offensive play before the half ended Baker was wide open for a TD as his man came off him when Chad moved out of the pocket but instead of trying to get him the ball he just tucked it in and went down.
Agreed. Our improved defensive play has been, in my opinion, a lot of smoke and mirrors. Don't forget that our DEs are average at best, we have no NT, and our "stud" linebacker isn't at all suited for this system. The Bills didn't try to outthink us on D; they lined up and simply beat us up physically. The big runs were right up the middle. We do not yet have the personnel to compete with that. I'm not excusing poor tackling or missed gap assignments; I'm saying that our defense is a work in progress, and this was more or less bound to happen. What was not bound to happen--what we shouldn't have expected--is such poor play from the QB position. I know the offensive line played badly, but our RBs were doing ok, getting into a rhythm and forcing the defense to play up a bit. But Chad consistently could not take advantage. I know we say this after every bad game he has, but it bears repeating: Chad's best attributes are supposedly his accuracy and decision-making, but today he looked inaccurate and lost. My problem with Chad is simple: as soon as he throws an interception, even if it's 0-0 in the first quarter, I chalk the game up to a loss. When things don't go well, Chad reverts into a shell. Blame Mangini and Schottenheimer for calling more conservative plays than they have recently (they did, and I cannot figure out why), but do you really think they were calling up 5-step drop checkdowns? No. That's Chad curling up into a ball and playing not to lose. He can't shoulder all the blame for this loss, but when you cough it up 3 times, you damn sure deserve a good bit of it.
Can't agree, 3rd - the Bills averaged more than 5 yards per carry and 10 yards per pass attempt (that's attempt, not completion), which should be embarrassing to the defense. Losman only had 15 pass attempts - if they had needed to, he could have passed more, and there's every reason to think he would have picked the team apart. IMO the team was just plain lousy all the way around.
The numbers certainly aren't pretty but when you've got that few attempts and one of them is an 80 yard TD it's going to make your numbers look pretty good. The only "drive" to speak of for the Bills all day was the late FG that essentially iced the game. I'm not saying the Jets D played well but I think with better play on the offensive side of the ball they played well enough to win.
The entire effort made me want to puke. The offense was terrible, chad, line, the receivers, and the backs. The defense was as bad as it has been all year. The play calling was the worst it has been all year. Way too many run, run, pass on 3rd and 10. If you look at the bad games Chad has had, it seems like the play calling is trying to establish the run and we get behind the chains. He will not be successful behind the chains. For a moment, I thought it was Marty calling the plays instead of Brian. The not going for it on 4th and inches was the worst call of the game. If they wanted to try to catch them in a hurry up thats fine, but when it didn't work, take a time out and go for it. If you can't get a few inches against a 5-7 team, you shouldn't worry about the playoffs.
touche. I'll use another example, how about the throw that ended up with Nate Clements scoring a touchdown? Sure, Cotchery got his hand on it and popped it right into Clements' hands, but the ball was about three feet too high and two feet behind him, and it probably would have been picked had he not gotten his hand on it anyway.
This guy is an unabashed Chad homer, and they showed the replay of the Coles pass at the stadium and it was definitely not tipped. He was probably afraid of it getting tipped which is why he double clutched and threw it into the ground.
Chads not superman... Its hard when youre defence gives up 2 huge plays for tds back to back and u keep having to get a lead back. The primary reason was the defence. Also Chad did not get the best protection. he was on the run a lot.
The ball was tipped for sure. The horrible INT overthrow to Cotchery was all on Chad. Horrible play. At the moment it was 14-10, Cotchery was wide open, no excuses on that one.
What amazes me is that with the way I phrased the question, it left room for plenty of OTHER culprits, yet half of us won't even label Chad the main culprit!
Why is it we always blame Chad when we lose but he's not the reaon we win? Chad was not ood yesterday but Buf played great, Chad deserves alot of the blame but again if not for Chad we'd have about 3 wins right now.
So you keep saying. How do you know how many wins the Jets would have if Chad was not the QB? You do realize that there are only 5 players with a worse INT% then Chad this year right? The guy is costing the Jets games with his poor play.
lol so what, this is obviously not a playoff team. of course we win because of Chad. but we lose because of him too. his inconsistency is almost laughable at this point. people can blame the defense all they want, they were on the field far too long. 14 points off of 3 turnovers. Chad is not capable of driving this team down the field. almost all of his good drives come off great field position from a miller return. hes no longer a cerebral accurate qb. not in my opinion. more INT's than TD's. and theres no excuse for any of his INT's. the first one was way behind the reciever. the 2nd was straight to London Fletcher. I like Chad and hes a good player. Just not the one thats going to take this organization beyond anything describable of a "middle of the road" team. Sure, we can talk about how low our expectations were this season and go ahead and give chad all the credit. then can we talk about the squandered oppertunities on his behalf? I'll admit, this wasnt ALL chads fault. id attribute some of it to the playcalling since anytime houston was in the game hes going up the gut. but aside from that I watched a "smart, accurate passer" make dumb reads and throw ugly balls. To me, this is now like an abusive relationship. Penny looks like Grossman, then torches mediocre teams to give us a glimpse of hope that maybe hes a upper tier QB. Now, I'm done at this point. My friend is a Cowboys fan, and near the end of the game I looked at him and said "Now I know what it felt like for you to watch Bledsoe"
We had no running game and no D most of the year, Chad was carrying us. The D was terrible all game, Chad didn't throw it away in the 1st half until late and the Bills O had already scored 14 on us. It was fromt he start and if not for a couple of Bills drops they would have kept mroe drives alive and scored more. The D was putrid yesterday. Yesterday he was not accurate. he has games like that from time to time.
Yeah, like you know, almost every time he plays a defense that doesn't suck. If you want a QB that will beat up on the weaker teams in the league and give you almost no shot to win against a tough defensive opponent then Chad is your guy. I said a month ago after the Bears game that Chad would have a "revival" against garbage teams like the Texans and Packers only to fold against the Bills and the Fins. It's not like this was a tough call either, it's been the pattern of his whole career.
