He was terrible on special teams also--had a chance to recover onside kick in jets near upset in New Orleans and would not even make an effort.
I also remember Bowles found out about the trade through a media member later that day during a press conference. Damn Mac......make a phone call to let your coach know some shit
We need a new thread to bash Macc every time a player he drafted or traded for is released? Even gambles and long shots with 5-7th round value?
Definitely a bad trade all around. I remember when it happened there was a rumor Robinson was going to get released. Anything more than 7 was a good trade for the 9ers. Bad trade but I won't kill Mac for it. other things yes this no. That being said it might be one of the worse trades in Jets history. I remember him playing the Chiefs and Tyreek Hill having two catches for 100 yards and a td. After that I don't think he did anything. Surprised he lasted this long. He was awful
It was one of the worst trades. But THE absolute worst trade in our history is Terry Boobway 2003 trading two number 1 picks and a 4th round pick for short squatty DL DeWayne Robertson. What made the trade so bad was that one of the 1st rounders we traded was a compensation pick from the Redskins for stealing 2002 jets MVP WR L. Coles from us (who Boobway did not properly tender) So, in essence, Boobway traded our team MVP from the previous season, AND our first round pick AND our 4th round pick...all for Robertson, who lasted 1 huge, unproductive contract with the jets. Dumb shit.
its because higher round players are better. it is fine to make that assumption. Once a player walks into a teams facility, the best players will play. front offices and coaching staffs both would love for some 6th rounder to be better. Chances go to those that earn it (relative to their competition of course)
yeah it was a strange move because Robinson was struggling on and off the field. The chances of him turning both things around were less likely than the chances of a 5th round pick panning out. It was a bad move
Agree. Lets trade two first round picks for a d tackle with bad knees. Why not use two premium picks on players that can help. Makes no sense. To add to Bradway's legacy what about the trade of a first rounder for Doug Jolley and then select Mike Nugent in the 2nd round. I really don't get these guys. They out think themselves. For a qb like the Darnold trade do what you need to do. Anything else stay in your slot unless there is a player you love and you can move up a few spots without giving up much or where you are picking you have a number of players in that area and you can drop a few and still get the player you want. Don't get it. Also I don't get how a team can neglect offense and the offensive line for so long with premium picks. The last 10 NFL seasons has shown that everything is moving away from defense. Pick offense (this year I'll let them slide knowing that Bosa and Williams were clearly the top two players and the Jets couldn't trade out). Only the Jets.
How is it untrue. Everything the NFL has done the last few years has been rules to help the offense. Some of them were due to safety and I won't count some of them because it had to be done knowing what we know now. Other rules though have helped the offense. Add in this article with Tim Hassleback and how it mentions Carson Palmer being in the top 15 all time with certain stats. Carson Palmer. Are you kidding me. Good qb. As a Jet fan would've been our best one since Namath but he's not a top 15 stat guy in the NFL. Theoretically he should be a Hall of Famer with those stats. Again good qb but not all time great. https://www.insidehook.com/article/sports/nfl-rule-changes-created-golden-era-quarterback-stats
the NFL rules have been aimed at helping offenses sure. If that's all you were referring to then I apologize, you are correct. But it would be a little odd considering I thought you were talking about NFL front offices and how teams try to build their teams
I was talking about both but specifically the Jets. We can go back to when the Jets took Brick and Mangold over the last 12 years and see that most of our premium first round picks were defense and some you could debate the Jets could have gone elsewhere. 2007: Revis can't argue that one (Mangini's three first round picks will be Ring of Honor Jets and Mangod a borderline Hall fo famer and Revis a definite one. Wish he would've been a scout for us, not coach but scout. He had an eye for talent). 2008: Gholston and Keller. Was a Mamula type guy. I would not have picked him. Jarrod Mayo LB of the Pats is who I would've gone with if my memory is correct. Keller was good for a few years. Can't complain on him. 2009: Sanchez: Ok offense. Trade up for a qb. Had a few good years. Can't complain. 2010: The run on defense. Kyle Wilson. Awful. I'll have to go back but I think there was a wr or ol I wanted that year that went a few picks after. 2011: Wilkerson: I think we picked in the 20s that year. Was productive for us. Not a bad pick. About where he should go. Don't remember someone else I liked. 2012: Coples: See Gholston. Work out warrior. Questions about his commitment to the game. Melvin Ingram was available and again other offensive players we could have gotten. 2013: Dee Milliner and Sheldon Richardson: Two defensive picks. Milliner injury concerns not even in the league. Fine take Richardson really good his first two years. There definetly was offensive help. Awful. Neglect neglect neglect. 2014: Calvin Pryor: Brandon Cooks. Jawaun James two picks after. Cooks Cooks Cooks. Awful. 2015: Leonard Williams: Redundant dline pick. I get it best available but could've went elsewhere. 2016: Darron Lee: Few wr taken after him. 2017: Jamal Adams: Looks like a great player but Watson and Mahomes. I'll be honest Watson was on my radar Mahomes was but not at 6 so I can't knock them there. Definitely Mahomes for me. Looking at the list and seeing some of the players we could've had makes me sad. it makes me sadder that we neglected offense with out 1st round pick for the last 10 years and the league has gone offense. Only the Jets. Now wonder we haven't been in the playoffs in 8 years.
Nice summary, AJT. I forget about that loser Kyle Wilson. Probably the only player in NFL history called for a defensive holding penalty 5 yards from the line of scrimmage on 3rd and 29 (against the Ravens). AUTOMATIC FIRST DOWN!! Dumb shit.
Coincided with a classic Herm panic move.... Josh Evans was about to be suspended so they reach for the bowling ball with butcher knives..... They repeated the panic move drafting Nugent, so they could blame Brien for blowing the playoff game. Worst part was the Bradway said only half that rd had "1st rd grades".... well some guy name Polamalu got drafted around where the JETS initial 1st rd pick wouldve been
Kyle Wilson was awful. Looking at that draft we selected him 29th. Patrick Robinson another cb two picks later would've been better. Only offensive player around that pick was Rodger Saffold. The line was good that year so not selecting him makes sense but I do remember wanting him. Jahvid Best, and Jerry Hughes were the other players in that area that the Jets could've went for. Not a great selection where we picked that year. Best would've been nice but we had Tomlinson and Shonn Green. Interesting to look back. Either way Wilson was the wrong pick. Like you said way too many penalties in the firs 5 yeards. Don't miss him.
