Lets talk horses = its that time of year again and the favorite just got scratched. Its a BIG field as usual so best of luck to you all ---> IF you hit it correctly you can make $ome ca$h. As for me ----> I don't think my picks will change so put me down for # 3 By My Standards— 15 to 1 # 5 Improbable ------- 5 to 1 # 7 Maximum Security-- 8 to 1 I might throw # 16 Game Winner in my Superfecta and exotics.
It sounds like its gonna be a sloppy track. With the sloppy track and the favorite already being a scratch, it makes it difficult to bet but at the same time offers the potential for an underdog to win with a nice payout $$$. I have to talk to my horse guy about who the "closers" are but I would pick a closer in this one. Game Winner is the new favorite and his pedigree is great for a sloppy track like that but it seems difficult to me for him to win with that #16 post. He's gonna have to run longer than the others with a more favorable post.
ONE THING to think long and hard about with the closers in the slop is that they will be behind a lot of horses and thats a lot of mud in their faces,,,,good luck to all this isa fun time of year
Maximum Security has moved into the favorite position this morning. The weather and everything else looks to be as clear as mud. I like Improbable, Maximum Security and Game Winner. Others who could figure in are Tacitus, Roadster and Win Win Win. Spinoff is my longshot. Good luck!
maximum security won and then got DQ for interference. Winner is Country House Horses were impeded for sure but Country house didn't look like one of them. Under pressure but the stewards made the right call.
My buddy and his kid had $25 on #20 to win otherwise I know NO ONE who won. Exacta was 3 grand the triple paid 11 grand !!!!!! That was one crazy finish
There are a lot of people complaining that the DQ damaged horse racing. Maybe it did, maybe it didn't. But here's would have damaged horse racing. Irreparably. If Maximum Security and War of Will had clipped heels and the Derby ended in a massive pileup with horses getting hurt or even killed. So yeah, it was the right call to DQ Maximum Security.
Nobody wanted to make that call but they had no choice. Strange though, a few people, who apparently don't know much about racing, were complaining like it was the end of the world and simply another example of media taking over for their own gains. Kind of like the last ten seconds of the Super Bowl and a guy makes a great catch on the sideline but steps on the line getting to the end zone - just ignore it because he made a great catch? I don't get it.
It was brutal to watch after the post-race interviews with the jockey and trainer. I hope people take care of their mental health because I can't imagine what they are thinking or going through right now. That embarrassment and failure must rival nothing else.
If that race was any other day of the year on any other track in the country , they would not have even debated as long as they did and the decision would have been made much sooner. It was a foul plain n simple. People were texting and calling me and I kept telling all of them " its coming down, they are changing it ". As TDK said I feel real bad for the trainer and even the Jockey but that Jockey had to know he fucked up.
As correct as the stewards decision was regarding the race, their performance afterwards was an embarrassment to the entire sport. To wait two hours after making the decision to issue a hundred word statement and then not open themselves to questions from the media was about as lame as they could get. All three involved should have been willing to fully explain what went into making the decision. Imagine how the uproar will grow if Maximum Security wins the Preakness and then the Belmont.
Can't even have a damn horse race without instant replay ruining it... I would've thought this would be the one event where we wouldn't have to deal with that bullshit. Whichever horse crosses the line first is the winner, so simple, so beautiful. Oh wait nevermind- Maximum Security's owners are going to file an appeal. Except that the rules state the decision cannot be appealed. Cool, probably gonna have to end this saga with a lawsuit in court. Its the American way
Is there nothing that should alter the first horse across the line ideology? Should the jockeys not be weighed in? Should they be permitted to whip opposing horses? Would any measure of interference be deemed excessive? Performance enhancing drugs? Electronic devices to shock the horses to higher levels of competition? This is a sport, none of which exist without rules. Clearly the lead horse moved out of its lane causing other competitors to back off; the rules governing the sport for over a century say that cannot be permitted. For the record, I had bets on Maximum Security.
Good point. We can just get instant replay to spend an hour looking at everything you mention. An hour replaying the horse's swinging balls from all angles maybe to make sure they aren't shriveled up from drugs. Anything is possible now with the beauty of instant replay and NO result is without question!!!!
I guess you're right. They won't even need to keep the finish line in one place. At some point crowd noise or some other audience participation metric will decide the race is over and who won.
