He could easily move up to the top of the WR class. I saw him vs FSU live. Kids a beast

lol this board loves using the term "straw man argument." It's like it's a rule that any thread on the board must contain at least one "straw man argument" reference.

"Straw Man Argument - the office term of TGG"

The time to replace Mac passed when Dorsey took the Browns job. He was the guy who built the Chiefs, took Mahomes, took Mayfield and has built that Browns team to seemingly be a contender this year. Mac looks bad when compared to Dorsey but he has been respectible when compared to the 30 other GM's.

Hate Mac all you like, but adding 2 pro-bowl players in Bell and Mosely, nice pieces with Crowder and Osemele, and over the last few years drafting young stars in the making like Darnold, Adams and Q Williams all while keeping the cap flexible show that Mac is a competent GM. Not good, but better than what the Jets have had in decades and just enough to stand pat.

I think his biggest fault are his drafts. He’s fine in the first round but the rest of the draft is baffling.

And his avoidence of drafting early OL. He is actually better than fine in the first round. Unlike many GM's his picks have all been contibuting players, its to be seen whether new coaches can get more out of these players. Rather than reaching for need he has drafted the best player on the board now in at least 3 drafts (Q & L Williams and Adams). Just having a Jet GM draft unquestioned good players rather than big question marks in the first round is improvement enough.

TBH if we had a committee of best posters from TGG and a 5 year period tell me we wouldn't have equal or better results??

Agree that the window passed to grab Dorsey , prob one of the best GMs

The first round?: D Lee has already busted out and the jury still out on Lenny W. Statistically speaking something like 60 per cent of first rounders make it in NFL anyway

If I was a GM I would hybrid BPA and Need..so if I am in Rnd 3 and Center is a big need i will take my highest grade Center at the time and I am not married to the BPA safety thats also sitting there

Big picture: Coaching aside, the personnel as drafted or FA contracted by MM has so far led us nowhere..few wins and no Playoffs

They did it for the same reason. I think people forget how good Kaep was for SF before Harbaugh left. After Harbaugh left the 49ers roster and coaching staff disintigrated.

Who are the best posters? Everyone has hits and misses. Alot of folks on the board were hoping for Paxton Lynch. Now thats a bust. Hackenburg was a Mega Bust. At pick 20, D Lee was the lowest 1st round pick Mac made. Given he was undersized it was a questionable pick at the time. It was also considered a need pick because the Jets were getting killed underneath and needed a LB who could cover and had some speed. After a 10-6 season, that was considered a missing piece in the Bowles defense. Seems they had a whole lot more missing pieces to fill!

So far, Lee has been average as a player, but I wouldnt consider him a bust. Guys like Shaq Larson and Myles Jack are around Lee's performance, and at only 24yo you wonder whether Lee wont keep getting better.

Leonard Williams is a good player, but not an exceptional one. He will pair well with Quinnen.

But your right you are what your record says you are. But I am optimistic for this year.

Dorsey got the Browns in contention discussions in just 2 seasons. Year 5 with Mac and we are still talking about being a year away...lol

Its about substitutes. Everyone seems in agreement Jets should have gotten Dorsey. Did they try? Was he even interested in a job with the Jets?

But if not Dorsey who? Seems to me the Jets could get someone worse. Bad at managing the Cap and takes Quinton Coples first round because his HC thinks he will be a beast. Or passes on Sam Darnold and takes Daniel Jones.

the guy who took the colts job, chris ballard , would have been a good choice.
was he the guy they were interested in who refused to interview for the job?
maybe word around the league is too much owner interference from the johnsons.?

How many good players had been drafted just before he got there and how many top picks where available to him to draft with?

Not saying he didn't do a good job but it helps when you are drafting 1 and 4 picking up to very good talents.

Also year 3 of the rebuild as you fine well know, year 1 and 2 win now football in play but it is so much better to blather on about 5 years, 5 years all the time, context is easy to apply, nearly as easily as bias.

The browns are 7-24-1 in John Dorsey’s tenure

You sound like a family member of his now. Rebuild or winning now should have no impact on drafting well if “sustained success” is truly goal. You are already planting seeds for excuses in the future.

So records is what we should judge GMs by? This also means Macc is a better GM than Dorsey.
