The play of our receivers took a big step back last year due to coaching. Playcalls were very much predictable. We ran on first down more then any team in the league. I am banking on them being better then last year.
Jets were top 10 in red zone defense last year. Also, Bowles had the corners play off most of the year. Moving the chains will be easy if you can't rush the passer and you are playing off coverage.
That’s a cute cherry picked stat but we were 29th in scoring defense. Scoring and preventing points is how the game is won
Nobodies complaining about who he added, It’s about who he didn’t, in a center and a #2 cb. Its about the lack of building up to this point which has us in a spot where we’ve added all these players and still have serious holes. It’s about how long it’s taken to get to this spot (where we’re still at least a year away). It’s about the playoff drought. It’s about the poor drafting after round 1. It’s about keeping an awful coach around 1 season too long and not fighting the Johnsons to cut ties. We’re on the 6 year plan apparently. Some throw out the first 2 years. I don’t know how you can. What profession allows 6 years to get results? I’m sure there are some, I just wish GM of the Jets wasn’t one of them. For some people it seems that everything before Darnold didn’t happen. I have a longer memory then that.
I agree with the ranking, but that deserves context as the defense was on the field at a crazy rate. Defense still showed flashes, and you cannot expect Adams to play defense and call the plays as well. What about when the offense turns the ball over and gives up a short field?
I expect Adams to play his ass off which he does every snap. Just proving how limited a safety’s impact is to winning in comparison to a QB.
The defense had went from a strength to a weakness and now were fixing it again. We now have the pieces minus corner to be really good, but I expect next year will be when we focus on fixing primarily the offensive line.
I agree that if the Jets don't make the playoffs, he must go. If that is the case, however, I hope that Chris and Woody won't wait until January to fire him, unless they're eliminated on the last day. If in December or even November for that matter, it's clear that the Jets are not going to make the playoffs, I hope that they will fire Mac at that point so they can get a head start on GM candidates, and hopefully, they can then have one hired by at least the 1st of the year. That will give the new GM a little longer to get settled and make plans, and give him a head start on scouts that become available following the draft. Incidentally, this was his 5th draft, not 4th.
I disagree with your analysis of Mahomes. Calling him an "Air Raid" QB is not accurate and silly imo. Yes, he played in an "Air Raid" offense in college, but he is much, MUCH more. I think he would be equally as good in any other offensive system. He probably has the strongest and most accurate arm in the NFL. If not, he's right up there at the top. He is also much more than just a one-read QB. I love Mayfield, but he's not in the same league as Mahomes. If Mahomes stays healthy, I think he will be a HOFer and will re-write all the record books for yardage, TDs, completion percentage, etc.
The defense was a strength, but Jets could not generate a pass rush and the offense was off the field quick. Bring Mo Claiborne back and the defense has no glaring holes. Jets could've fixed the interior of the line this year. They got the guard, but did not provide competition at the C position.
This was his 5th draft, that’s crazy to think about. The team definitely needs to see results this season, and I agree, if it’s clear where out of the race Mac needs to go. As put off as I am by Mac, I am excited for this season. I can’t wait to see what Darnold can do with weapons, provided he gets some time when he drops back.
I'm excited too, but it's because of Darnold, Bell, seeing what G. Williams will do with our D, seeing if any of our draft picks beyond the 1st round pan out, and what Gase will do with our offense if Sam doesn't get killed due to Harrison at center. The thing is, I'd be a heck of a lot more excited if Mac had signed Morse or Paradis and one of the CBs I've mentioned several times.
By the way, I don't like to see guys fired. They have families and ego and it's no fun to be in the public spotlight when things aren't going your way. I hope Mac's off season and the squad we field will be highly competitive, entertaining and make the playoffs. It's what we all want including Mac. At the end of the day it's about wins and losses. Let's hope all of us who have second guessed Mac are dead wrong. I would like nothing better than to eat some crow on this topic.
Just curious - how do you explain how the defense went from a strength to a weakness when almost all of the prime draft picks were on "D", and so much money has been invested in that unit during Macc's tenure?
I’m excited about Ty Montgomery on offense and special teams. It’s been a minute since we had a guy that was dynamic with the ball in his hands. He’s the kind of value target that gives me an off-season boner not throwing big money at the Trumaine Johnson, Le’veon Bell & C.J. Mosley’s of the world.
