I don't think either one is coming back. We have Bell, McGuire, Cannon, and Montgomery at RB, and we have Darnold, Siemian, and Webb at QB.
You're gonna probably be missing them both too. No reason for either guy to return to the team as their replacements have already been signed and on the roster.
I think Powell is worth bringing back for sure. McCown wants to retire, but I'd love to see him keep coaching Darnold here.
I never fully understood the whole "Josh would make a great QB coach" thing. Other than having lasted a long time in the league...what else is noteworthy? Has he ever expressed a desire to coach? Don't get me wrong...I like the guy...
I think he has and teams have approached him with regards to coaching. If I remember correctly. Guys like mccown, middling players make good coaches.
I think he was a good mentor for Sam, as FJF said, I recall him saying he would like to coach in the future. He had the mental makeup but not really the physical ability. Don't know he would fit here under Gase though. As Gase has stated he will be the only one working with Darnold and doesn't want any other voices in his ear.
Yes and he still has a ton of knowledge at the QB position that he could pass down. Darnold was constantly saying how much Josh helped him out all year as a rookie. [/CLICHE] I mean the guy has forgotten more about football than most of us will ever know. [/CLICHE ]
Price for Powell? I don't think it would cost much. In terms of Gase, he needs to coach the entire team in addition to Darnold. Having a trusted presence dedicated solely to Darnold full time would be a good addition. That's why most teams have QB coaches. And I'd probably trust McCown giving him advice more than Loggains, who is actually younger than McCown.
I wouldn’t mind bringing back Powell although maybe it’s not the best move for either side right now...he might wait to see if any team loses their rb in training camp McCown is probably in the same boat...he’d still rather play for a few million than coach for a couple hundred grand...wouldn’t you?
It seems to me that the players in most sports that we consider to be ‘decent but not so great’ often make the best coaches whereas the HoFers are usually poor coaches. This is just a generalization, of course, but I suspect that this is because naturally talented people sometimes don’t have to work as hard at the minutiae of their game like a lesser talent does. Consequently, someone who may not be as good a player may actually have a better feel for the game and can relay that information to young players. Of course there are exceptions, but think about it. How many players in different sports have gone on to have great coaching careers after mediocre to poor careers? There’s a ton.
