The decision to keep or fire Mac happened in January. Christopher Johnson chose to keep him. That's it. All of this "Fire Mac" talk is ridiculous to me. It would have made sense in 2016. or 2017. or after the 2018 season if the Jets cleaned house. Now? After a solid 2019 off-season where the Jets roster looks better than it has for years? Crazy.
Trading is not the way to build a team. The only thing the Jets have to trade are good young players that we don't want to give up and shouldn't give up, or draft picks. We need our future draft picks to continue upgrading the talent level of our team and in all likelihood we will be looking for our future LT, our future C and a #1 WR in the draft next year. We will have to agree to disagree. I've never seen other GMs refuse to sign players at positions of glaring need in FA and leave it up to the draft or camp cuts. Mac did it at 3 positions. That is inexcusable. On top of all of his other failings in FA and the draft over the last 5 years. He has to go.
If we make the playoffs this year and Darnold looks better he wont be going anywhere...If i had to Give Mac a grade for his job as Jets GM for the last 5 years 1 being the worst 10 being the best id give him a 6...
I've said Paradis or Morse. And Mac never even made an offer to Paradis. He may not have signed with the Jets anyway, but we don't know that. If Mac had made a big deal over signing him, that he was going to be the center point of the OL rebuild, and offered him a reasonable contract (more than Morse), Paradis may have signed. Paradis was insulted that the Jets didn't make an offer and evidently another team or so made paltry offers, because he made a comment about not being respected and made reasonable offers. I will not stop. IMO it's totally valid. If you disagree, fine.
Didn't Paradis want to take his family to somewhere peaceful to live and not a bustling metropolis like New York, not that I can find anything of that being reported but it was mentioned in his thread at the time, also there must be huge concerns with his broken leg, Denver insisted they had massive concerns about it and with him stating he wanted to be paid like a top centre, it is hard to blame Mac for not going in for him, different if he was guaranteed 100% fit. Morse also seems overpriced really but yes we need a centre before the season starts.
The media is always trying to create dissension. Winning cures everything. That's how all this stops and/or becomes irrelevant.
It's true.... Forgot where I read it, but the dude said he couldnt see himself living there "Im more of a country boy" or something like that
What a bunch of fake bullshit. You fire Macc before the off-season officially started, just as we canned Todd Bowles; but not after you gave your GM over $100M in available salary cap to spend while trusting him with the #3 overall pick. You fire him ahead of time but to fire him now or before the season starts? Not happening. "Hey. I have $100M to give you + a 3rd overall draft pick to work with but then I'm going to immediately fire you afterwards". This thread deserves to be moved to the BULLSHIT forum because this is bullshit.
Im pretty pissed about another defense heavy draft. Seems like MAC’s long range first order of business after drafting Sam was rebuilding the DL after breaking down a massively expensive & failed disaster within the same unit. Im lost by what this guy is doing. ID like to beat the patriots at some point in my lifetime. Is that so much to ask?
Most FAs are overpriced. Mosley was overpriced. Crowder was overpriced. Henry Anderson was overpriced. That's the penalty a GM pays when he drafts poorly, trades draft picks for veteran players, or fails to address positions in the draft. In an ideal world, a GM would only use FA for depth, competition, and an occasional starter arising out of an injury or retirement.
Mike Lombardi who started these rumors has a son who was part of Bowles staff and was just let go so take it for what’s it worth. Mike is one of belicheks boys so we know he’s a jet hater. No way u keep a gm and let him run free agency and the draft and then fire him. It’s a smear campaign. All BS. The jet podcasts folks on twitter are the ones that ran with it because they all hate Gase.
All I ever read was some TV appearance where the guy talked about having porcupine races in his home town and then a bunch of people assuming he didn't want to play in NJ because he was too much of a rube. No actual quote about him not wanting to play in the city. There were many unsubstantiated reports about his possibly wanting to go back to Denver, about the Jets being front runners, then about the Jets not really showing any interest in him at all. Never actually a single report that they met with him, even though he spent the first few days at his Jets fan agent's office in NY. Then he signs with a team in the 17th most densely populated city in the country. This is why I ask for a link.
It's not like the dude was Mangold level type player.... "MAC PUT US IN CAP HELLLLL....TANNY 2.0.....AHHHHH"
I think NC is absolutely correct about FA especially after pointing out how the GM never made a sincere offer to M Paridis ..this seems to tie in with the reported rift with our HC Gase. Glaring need at center goes by the boards Plus, he left finding other positions of glaring need eg WR, CB to the draft and then hands us the bull that BPA trumps need. Imo the draft is really more meeting the needs of the team and developing young players I've said Mac hit a Homer in FA but it's really a long Double ...100 Mil got us some splashy signings and we hopefully win some games . But he better finish the job
I can swear that I read him or his agent say that the jets NEVER made him an offer----> I also remember him or his agent bent about that -- its out there somewhere
That was another assumption by fans, I think. There was some out of context blurb taken from an "article" on GGN which is basically a fan blog, something to the effect of assuming a GaryVee tweet saying "it takes two" followed by a little airplane emoji meant that the Jets were not playing ball. Shortly after that tweet Paradis signed with Carolina.
