Better to fire him now and let the new GM start preparing for next year's FA and draft, and revamping the Scouting Dept (god knows it needs to be done!). It actually makes more sense to replace your GM now than in January when there is really no time for him to prepare for a draft 3 months away.
They let him pick the players because who else could at this point? It's not like any GM they hire would know enough about the team, it's needs and the talent available. And maybe they were hoping Macc would pull a rabbit out of his ass, but all he really did was pull a BPA out again.
I've said it before, I'll say it again. Macc's fate will be decided by this off season. He's safe for a couple years.
Good point, the owners were stupid to make those extensions based on crap OTOH they extended Todd Bowles and ended up finally firing him Today, Just maybe they have Independent Help/Evaluation of Macs entire tenure and present draft Are they on the Cell Phone with Gase? the HC cant interfere but he can comment Rnd by Rnd to ownership
Sorry Sam but thats a horrible thought! winning will help Mac...but a shrewd owner will recognize that this new CS was responsible for that and working with Mac's bag of groceries>>>a couple of Steaks in Bell and Mosely plus 2 Pork Chops of Osemble and Crowder but the rest on Draft day could be mostly Lemons Hmmm...did I say shrewd owner lol
I think his fate is also tied to Darnold. This off-season of course was also huge, and Id give it a B+ Looks good on paper, but we will need to finally see some results on the field. If the team takes a big step in right direction on the field, he will deserve a lot of credit for that.
The excuse making is really getting ridiculous. He has not had a great offseason imo. A GM doesn't have a "great offseason" when he has glaring holes at 3 starting positions (one of which is the 2nd or 3rd most important position on a football team, and one we've been without a quality player for 13 years), and does nothing in FA to address those holes, then fails to address two of them in the draft. He signed Bell, which is awesome, but he had no competition for Bell. I really like the Crowder signing. I love Mosley as a player and leader, but he was a luxury signing. The Jets would have been much better off if Mac had signed Paradis or Morse, Shaq Barrett or ZaDarius Smith, and one of Ronald Darby, Darqueeze Dennard, Bryce Callahan and Steven Nelson. No, you can't fix every hole in one offseason, but Mac could have very easily fixed both the C position and #2 CB position in FA and spit the bit. He also could have signed a good edge rusher like Shaq Barrett or Zadarius Smith, but they weren't priorities to him. His stupid ass needs to go. He drafted some good prospects in the draft, but again stressed D over offense. That in and of itself is stupid.
So "not having a bad offseason" is a reason to keep him? We needed a very good offseason, if not a great one. It started great with the signing of Bell, Barr and Crowder, then Barr changed his mind, Mac evidently went into shell-shocked mode, and it went to shit from there with the exception of signing Mosley, and imo signing him rather than signing Morse or Paradis, Shaq Barrett or ZaDarius Smith, and an outside CB was a big mistake. I think he's incompetent and downright stupid.
There is certainly that possibility, and I hope this happens, but I don't think so. I think Macc has "marched to his own drummer" and it's going to cost him.
He only had $100m in cap space to spend.. Macc had a typically Macc offseason. 2 name FA's, a blue chip BPA-D again and guys who may or may not amount to anything at all. If its good enough for Chris "The Genius" Johnson, it should be good enough for the likes of you! Put those Green Glasses back on, pour yourself a huge tumbler of Green Koolaid and Stoli, and enjoy whats to come in 2019. With any luck, it won't be a redux of 2018.
I am not Mac supporter But NC Jet and others quit criticizing him for not signing Paradis - Idaho boy flat out did not want to come to the big city.
A lot of people (including Mac). The Jets should have began a rebuild in 2015, instead they patched the team up and ended up 10-6. Then completely collapsed in 2016. An official rebuild began in 2017. Now is the time the Jets should begin to compete and succeed. If not, then clearly Mac has to go. We need to see the final product before we criticize that much. I still think the Jets will sign or trade for another CB and a Center. We will see. And he tried to sign Barr but he went back to Minnesota, and Paradis clearly did not want to be a Jet. Only so much you can do.
Buffalo did a couple years ago. They hired Sean McDermott as HC and let GM Doug Whaley draft the players and then the following week Whaley was let go and McDermott’s friend Brandon Beane was named GM
Fair post. It’s definitely time to see results. They should make the playoffs this season and be championship caliber the following. Not sure that’s going to happen, but there’s only one way to find out.
I find it interesting that Macsuckan has been doing the draft day pressers by himself. In the past he was joined by Bowles in these daily pressers. That tells me that maybe there is some truth to the reported rift with Gase, and maybe, just maybe....some truth to Macsuckan getting the boot after the draft.
