I never said they'll be "immediate starters". Sorry if you didn't understand that. 1st round picks often don't become immediate starters, it doesn't mean you skip over them. The idea is to try and find guys who can help your team, and starters help your team more than backups do, and - amazingly! - they can be found in any round if a GM is good. I will grant that with our GM the odds aren;t good for finding starters after the 1st round.
This is absolutely moronic. Not when you have no center and need a corner and could use a WR. You don't draft an undersized special teamer. You take a center...and then you keep looking for one via trade or somehow after the draft. Heck if we hit on C in the 5th then that's a major plus for the franchise going forward. If we don't we don't. If we hit on some special teamer...big deal. They come and go. I'd rather take the C or WR right now with a higher upside
Oh well, special teams stud after we missed out on the last viable center a couple of picks earlier. I forgot we had Jon Toth, many of you guys wanted him during his draft year. Quite honestly, probably as good a chance to make an impact as any other 5th rounder. Harrison played well in his limited time. Probably means we go after Wizniewski (however you spell it lol) or maybe talk Josh Sitton out of retirement. Let's see who or what we can trade Lee for.
I ignore those and only quote the posts I made that make me look like I was very incisive and smart (hence only 1 or 2 per draft season)
Yeah, I really wanted Bobby Massie in the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th rounds of the 2012 draft..... The Jets decided to use those picks for Stephen Hill, Demario Davis, and Tim Tebow (trade) instead. Massie just signed a 4-year extension with the Bears.
Lee will be gone whether he is traded this season or let go next season. That leaves us with Hewitt at depth and I am not crazy about that. Adding Cashman though gives us something when Lee is gone. Hopefully he can develop with good coverage so we can also use him in situational downs.
Not last year, but Richard Sherman comes to my mind. 5th rounder. Sometimes you get lucky. I don’t agree with this pick however.
It might actually be worse if they talked about the players. Imagine how embarrassing it would be if the fans if the other 31 teams found out we just drafted a linebacker that doesn't like to tackle?
yep - soon as it gets passed the 2nd round it's like they just give up - and all these stupid novelty ways to read out the picks - enough already. I mean Denver just had a guy ski down a slope then read out a pick but you could hardly hear a word he was saying as he stopped about 20 yards from the camera and there were snowmobiles everywhere
