I loved Allen but he's really only considered a better prospect because he's a "good guy". Polite is a beast that has the moves(arguably more than Allen) and a never-ending motor. He fits our D perfect. I think we hit a homerun here.
Absolutely. I think this was a case of he literally just didn’t get what was happening. He said it himself. This is a business I just wasn’t ready for that. I think my answers were too short. Bottom line he was not ready for the interviews. It’s not Bc he was a piece of shit and a cocky prick. We got a steal here I think.
Me too man. I am really loving this pick the more I dig into it. I think we really got extremely lucky that he slid to the third here.
This would be different if this addition was a well established veteran that had concerns and influence. But it's a young kid that's going to have nothing but role models around him, this isn't the later years Rex Ryan circus team.
And i mean really, we’ve been begging for an edge for like 15 years and we finally take one that is way more talented than the spot we took him. This is a gift.
I’ve watched his combine interviews and I am really having a hard time seeing any negative character issues. The guy is apologetic for his lack of preparation and for his error in gaining an additional 20 pounds (because he thought they wanted him to be bigger). He answers all questions honestly and without an angry tone. Also, he is a momma’s boy, and his twitter handle is literally @RetireMom because his goal is for her not to have to work anymore. Meanwhile the Titans drafted some guy caught on tape beating the shit out of a girl in the first round.
This all mostly seems like he didn't have good leadership going into the draft process. As a previous poster said, it seems like we usually go for the guys who has the physical traits but haven't performed extremely well on tape. It's a little refreshing to go the opposite route for once.
dude are you trying to be the dumbest poster on the board? Hes a 3 down lineman because of his speed and ability to get into the backfield. The Giants nose tackle is 340 lbs...those guys play 2 downs only. You have no idea what youre talking about.
save your breath dude....hes one of the old men here who have no idea what theyre talking about. Its so tiring. YOu can just tell by the usernames........dont even bother
Kid was woefully prepared for the draft. Doesn’t seem like a terrible guy based on this interview. Just lacked direction and support... With the ultra good character guys the Jets have been acquiring on defense - Williams, Williams, Williams, Mosely, Anderson, Adams, Maye, this guy will have a fantastic support group and be taught how to be a pro + the Jets can afford to take a chance... they got an amazing group of leaders. I like this pick a lot more than when it was originally made.
I think he got some bad advice from his agent. They told him teams were gonna be worried about his size so he tried to bulk up and it was a flop. I’m always the type of guy who says the combine is bullshit and teams should ignore it completely. Since that’s my feeling and that’s exactly what the Jets did here, I’m not gonna hate on this pick at all
I'm sure his agent told him to stick his head in a vat of Ice Cream for 2 months to prepare for the combine. I've been waiting for my personal trainer to tell me that for 10 years.
Yeah... there's a lot of wishful thinking in this thread. I really like his game tape, but the guy showed up for the biggest job interview he will ever have with his dick hanging out. It takes more than bad advice from an agent for that to happen.
Ha! Well his agent is just some bullshit attorney, not a trainer, and that’s the problem. But your point is valid- I’m sure Polite did some of his own “bulking up” on the side
