I agree how much worst could it be. Trying to improve all phases of the team is the goal. But Rain Man Mike can only see 1/3. You would think he would be stellar at it by focusing solely on one part of the 1/3. But he gets it wrong every time.
That's how it works at TGG. The Jets do something and it gets blasted. Then people say it's growing on them and in a few weeks, all of a sudden it's popular. Watch the same thing happen with Quinnen Williams. Of course it never ends well but that's another story...
It's not just Jets fans though, it's ALL humans. We're built to forget pain, it's a survival mechanism. If we weren't, women would never have a second child. That said, I haven't learned to forget Macc picking Hackenburg and passing on Mahomes.
So you would’ve taken Deandre Baker who went 30th at 3 overall?? Yea I’ll just say, stick to boozing.
If Williams is anything like the blue chip prospect he appears to be, fans will like him very quickly. It was a solid and safe pick.. only Jet fans would bitch about that. Those uniforms on the other hand......ugh.
20-20 hilndsight. He also drove a car 100 mph with a kid and a gun in auto. he also started trouble in the locker room with Brandon Marshall.
LOL. In 3 years who knows he might be a stud. I wonder if the guard that handled Q Williams in the championship game available.
Not hindsight at all. I posted repeatedly that we should bring Sheldon back while he was a free agent What does any of that have to do with his play over the next 2-4 years?
I know the physical comparison is off, but what I mean is the draft anticipation comparison. We had our interior men, and Rex REACHED on what he thought was the best OLB. If Macc didn't see Allen becoming the dominant edge rusher we hoped he'd be, for any number reasons (perhaps some off the field stuff we know nothing about, just saying) then Macc was right in getting a 'Warren Sapp' to play along Leonard Williams. Even Though Edge is a bigger need.
You are right. But the only thing that HAS beat the Pats is strong interior rush (Giants, Giants, Eagles). And Jets in the playoffs 2010. Our Dline smeared Brady that game (something like 7 sacks). Both Quinnenn AND Allen represent pressure on the QB. Macc felt Quinnen over the course of a game/season/career would be more disruptive up the middle than Allen coming off the edge. Maybe Macc is right, maybe Macc is wrong, time will tell. Now if Macc had used #3 on say a TE or MLBer, doing nothing to upgrade our D-Line overall, I would be far more upset.
Damn! The next time the Jets win the SB people on this board will be bitching about the score. I give up.
You are sooo right. When picking 3rd overall, a GM MUST put aside needs (which change every year) and draft a generational player. This is what makes teams great. Players like Allen are available every year somewhere in the 1st round. But players Quinnen only go at the top for a reason. MacCagnan is a good GM. We are FAR better off now than under 6 years of Tannenbaum trading draft pics for FAs and chasing shadows (and coming up snake eyes). We're in good hands.
What would be even better is if we had a great backfield that forces QBs to hold the ball an extra second. Our defense would be off the charts. Can I dream of having Revis and John Abrams in their primes to go along with Adams, Williams x2, and Mosely!!!
