Moving from 15 to 3 for a QB is hugely different than 15 to 8 for a non QB. According to the "draft chart," moving from 15 to 8 would cost a late 2nd. Whereas, moving from 15 to 3 for a QB, all bets are off. They'd be getting at least a future 1st and 2nd. If the Jets could trade 15 to 8 and it would cost them a flip of 2nd rounders and an additional late 3rd or 4th, I'd jump. Not that I think a Moral of the story is, if the Jets traded back and then traded back up, it wouldnt defeat the purpose of the initial trade.
No one except the media and fans go by the draft chart. The Lions might be more inclined to be fair since we weren't moving up for a QB, but then again if there was a player or players that they really liked at that spot, then they could and should rightfully charge us a premium for their missing out on that prospect(s) and for us to move up. I think it would take more than a late 2nd to move up. How many teams in draft history have traded down that far and then traded back up? IMO it's just fan speculation and not something most NFL teams would do. Trades are hard to come to an agreement anyway, and when teams are on the clock in the draft, there just isn't the time usually to work out trades. They have to be worked out prior to the draft. It would have to be pretty far-fetched imo to think that the Jets will have worked out deals with both the Redskins and the Lions before the draft, and if the Jets called the Lions looking to make that kind of move, why wouldn't the Lions just trade with the Redskins first and then let the Redskins trade up with us from #8 instead of #15?
This can happen as well. We've seen it happen before, I believe the Rams or Eagles did it a few years ago. I'm not sure of your point. Obviously circumstances can make any situation not happen. You told me trading up would defeat the purpose of the original trade. I think that is a silly take. For the right price, I don't see why it would defeat the purpose at all.
Again, we'll just have to agree to disagree. Sure, anything can happen. But just because it does, doesn't mean that it should. If only one team (and I'm not sure that either the Rams or Eagles did that) has done that, then that shows the difficulty of teams doing that. They used to have longer on the clock as well, and would have had more time to make trades like that, and didn't. There's a reason for that.
So just to close this loop, and I won't push it any further than this. It just seems to me like your arguing just to argue. If the Jets got two firsts and two seconds in exchange for the third pick, and proceeded to trade the fifteenth pick and a third and fourth back up into the top ten, would you consider that "defeating the purpose?"
You're the one arguing just to argue. I've said several times that we can agree to disagree, and we do disagree. I'm not responding any further.
I'm just trying to discuss potential moves. But it's fine, this doesn't have to go any further. Have a nice day.
SI has a mock draft where the jets slide back to 6 and still get allen. that would be amazing if it happened. for moving back the 3 spots we get the giants 2nd rounder this year and their 1st rounder next year (which will be top 10 and possibly top 5) the other picks were in order (murray, bosa, haskins, taylor, white) that means we could grab mccoy with their 2nd rounder or maybe even bradbury if he slips out of the 1st round
Yes, that would be amazing, but SI is never right, and I don't think it would ever happen. Oakland or Tampa Bay would be all over Allen. We'd be left with the choice of Jawaan Taylor, Jonah Williams or Brian Burns. That wouldn't be awful, but could be if Burns proved to not be able to keep the weight on or if he stayed injured or his production was less at the heavier weight. While anything's possible in the NFL, I seriously doubt that Bradbury slips out of the 1st round. Even if he did, someone could take him in the first 5 picks of the 2nd round. We all know how scarce good OL are in the NFL. The few good OL are gonna go very fast in this draft. There will be overdrafting and reaching for OL. Book on it.
in this draft oakland trades up to 1 for murray so they aren't an option. TB chooses white over allen which makes sense since they are in a divsion with mccafrey and kamara, having a LBers who can go sideline to sideline and cover RBs out of the backfield is probably more important to them then an edge rusher. arizona at 4 passes on them for taylor to protect rosen since edge isn't a big need and they have jones on edge already. as far as bradbury goes i agree he likely won't slip but if he does, the giants pick is 5th plus we always have the option to move up a couple of spots (which would only cost like a 6th to move up 2-3 spots in the 2nd round) or worse case still get mccoy.
The big rumor circulating the last few days is that the Jets are going with Ed Oliver. I sincerely hope we do not take Oliver with the 3. He is undersized, will get mauled by much bigger offensive linemen and is a reach at 3. If the pointy heads in the war room are dead set on Oliver then they had best trade down to get him.
hes not sruguing just to argue....he just doesnt understand a lot of things. OF COURSE the Jets could trade down and then back up depending on how players fell and of course it WOULD NOT "defeat the purpose of trading down"
Jimmy Johnson used to do that when he took over in Dallas - remember all those crazy moves up and done the draft .....that Hershel Walker trade started it all off and allowed him to move up and down two or three drafts in a row and he built a perennial SB contender in about 3 years. That being said we’re talking almost 30 years ago - teams are a little more leery now of over thinking draft strategies so don’t expect Mac to follow suit . I think he would be best served either staying put and taking an EDGE rusher or trading down and adding a few picks - and maybe a high pick next year. He’s no Jimmy Johnson .....
All it would do is move us out of our original spot where we could get a blue chip player. Players available from 8 to 15 are all second tear players so why trade back into 8. Keep 15 & all your picks.
That is entirely possible, and what ultimately I believe will happen. I'm on the Bosa/Allen train right now. My point was that trading for the 15th pick does not lock the Jets into picking 15th. It was just another avenue to consider with respect to navigating the first round and getting the player you want. Sent from my SM-G973U using Tapatalk
That's really only running backs. Their RBs look amazing behind top tier o-lines and get drafted too high. The rest of the top picks tend to be pretty good.
