Peter King drops this mini-bomb (bolded) into his column this morning... https://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2019/04/22/nfl-mock-draft-fmia-peter-king/?cid=fmiatw
What would your opinion be if they had a similar trade down scenario but came away with Frank Clark and Hockenson? I'm trying to think of something currently completely off the radar, but still intriguing once you get past the shock. Hockenson paired with Herndon could be a pretty damn dynamic structure for Darnold to really ascend this year.
Perhaps, but the Jets cannot afford to trade up, and that's what Mario suggested, was trading back into the first to get Jonah. I also think the top 10-15 picks is too high to draft an OG, especially one not named Quenton Nelson. I wouldn't hesitate to take Jawaan Taylor in the top 10 due to his strength, athleticism and size. Jonah Williams has excellent technique but doesn't have the power or athleticism of Taylor. No way I'd take him even in the top 20.
I like Hockenson a lot, but I'm against trading for Frank Clark under any circumstances. You do understand that he has never played OLB right, and that we run a 3-4 base alignment, right? You don't trade a high pick for a player who is going to demand big money to play a position he's never played before. That's just nuts. I wouldn't trade for him if we were switching to a 4-3 base. Why should we, when we can draft a very good edge rusher in this draft who could wind up better than Clark and have him cheaply for 5 years?
That would be just like the Jets "brain trust" (and I use that term VERY lightly when referring to the Jets) to not love Allen. Damn you, Joe Namath, for causing me to become a Jets fan!
I'm thinking the most ideal scenario for the jets is murray falls to 3 and the giants give us both their 1st rounders to move up to 3. then we can take taylor at 6 and whatever edge rusher is left at 17 (should be a good one there) or maybe even greedy if he slips that far
I have read that during the season Oliver's playing weight is around 270 and that he projects to be a 3 tech 5 tech or play some OLB. I believe you are correct that he is far to light to play NT in the pros.
Keep in mind this is Peter King ( he doesn't like the Jets ) and the person he " trusts " could have been given bad information purposely by whoever inside the Jets front office. This is the beginning of draft week....time is running out and now the games start. Teams will panic, feign, and start rumors to try to get a nugget especially within the top 10.
I don't think the Giants would ever do that, but even if they did, if Allen is still there at pick #6 I'm taking him, not Taylor, and then I'm taking Bradbury at #17 if he's still there. If not I will either try to trade down for a 2nd round pick, or I will take Dillard or the best WR or CB left. If the Raiders or Bucs took Allen, then I might take Taylor, or I might take Brian Burns. If both Allen and Taylor were gone, then I'd definitely take Brian Burns at #6.
yeah i can't see them trading up either but if murray was to fall to 3. the jets would be in a great spot to trade down. i cna't see allen being there at 6 either with the raiders and bucs behind us. one of them will take him. I wouldn't take Bradbury at 17 but would trade down and take him late 1st early 2nd. the reason i said taylor is he is far the best OT in the draft and the OT position is thin, but the edge rushers position is stacked and there will be a really good edge rusher at 17 no matter what
Hopefully this QB trade chatter spurs another team on to try and leapfrog the Raiders into the #3 position.
This is exactly what I was thinking when I heard they were considering him. He wouldn't be at NT, he would play EDGE or OLB
Don't want to deal with that at all. Especially after the Dwayne Robertson disaster with his condition. This is something that can compromise him going forward
