i never seen it as a rumor 1 random person on bleacher report that nobody else in the NFL media said isn't a rumor. it's no different then me saying right now the jets are going to take burns 3rd overall. it's just 1 random dude with no inside info. if it was a rumor form a credible source like the ed oliver one's now that would be different. also looking back though rosen was the jets QB2 on their board. it was darnold, rosen, mayfield, allen in that order
https://www.sny.tv/jets/news/jets-w...er-darnold-if-both-are-on-the-board/274026536 This was a hot rumor, so yeah incorrect. The purpose to put out these things is to get other teams to bite. Most rumors are smokescreens and are not true.
i'll give you that one. that one at least (3 links later) had a legit source in lance zierlien. the one i seen lied and claimed shefter reported it but he didn't . makes sense for the jets to do that to prevent a team from jumping them at 2 for darnold.
I don't want any DL picks in the first round (that isn't a top tier pass rusher) but if we do go that route I really hope its not for Oliver - that would pretty much be my worst case scenario (of anything even slightly realistic)
Even if they did, why take a guy you have to project to edge when you have a guy who has tape of playing edge at a very high level against top competition?
Oliver brings versatility. You can move him around all over that defensive line. Gregg Williams will not run a straight 3-4, he will mix up fronts, week to week, play to play. Oliver and Quinnen Williams are perfect for that. Josh Allen is an edge only, perfect for other systems. -lots of Williams' , easy to mix up-
Allen can play hand down or standing up giving us the flexibility to change fronts easily. Trying to project a player into that kind of role is taking too much of a chance with a premium pick imo.
Williams & Oliver are likely higher grades than Allen.Mac will not abandon his BPA philosophy at any draft spot & that, if not a smokescreen, is why we’re hearing the interior DL’s would be the pick at 3. This also explains the desire to move down.FO know the history of DL here & how many other needs the team has. It’ll be fascinating if they really cant move out of 3 & its down to Q vs Allen if Mac will possibly deviate from BPA to avoid a familiar trap & fill a massive longtime need
rushing up the middle creates more turnovers. With Quinnen or Oliver you could do so much up the middle. I would be happy with either one
i prefer josh allen too but , i wonder maybe they dont believe he is gonna be there at 3 or they dont think he is good enough for the 3 spot.
If he's not good enough at 3, he will be good enough at 6. Allen has improved each year he's been in college, I went back and saw some of his games, he actually does have a few pass rushing moves but he needs more work further developing them. If Greg and the Jets feel, they can coach him up (Josh Allen is very coachable) he should be the pick at 3
I disagree. Q. Williams and Ed Oliver are only fits for 4-3 D alignments. Period. Josh Allen can play OLB in a 3-4 D alignment or DE in a 4-3. He is the only one with true scheme versatility.
I don't think it will be fascinating. I think it will hugely disappointing and frustrating for Jets fans! Mac will have had the opportunity to take the elite edge rusher that we've coveted for 13 years, and like a total moron, his obsession with BPA will cause him to overthink it and take Q. Williams or Ed Oliver, and both will be meh in our D, and Allen will go onto a HOF career elsewhere. I hate Mac! I want the SOB fired and disgraced.
Only if the rusher can get there, and in terms of getting to the QB, only if there's also serious outside pressure. If Q. Williams and/or Ed Oliver start having that kind of success in the NFL, all teams will have to do is pinch their alignment inward, and they won't have a hole to slither through, then they'll be stonewalled.
If they don't think he is good enough for the #3 spot, every single one of them ought to be fired immediately because they can't judge talent worth a damn!
I think we have the rush up the middle, but we need to compliment it with the outside. Offenses don't respect the Jets EDGE rushers, so they just double everyone on the inside and ensure no pressure is applied up the middle.
Read this article about pass rush redundancy (multiple stud interior DL) vs variety (edge rush + interior rush). http://turnonthejets.com/2019/04/new-york-jets-nfl-draft-decision-variety-vs-redundancy/ If the Jets draft Q or Oliver they're just repeating past mistakes (Sheldon, Leo, Mo) and not following the blueprint of successful teams (Saints, Bears, Steelers). Get pressure from the interior and the edge so the OL can't just double your interior rush.
It figures. I was happy with the Jets' hiring of Greg Williams. I should have know that the SOB would influence Mac negatively (as if Mac needs any help in that regard), and we'd blow the opportunity to get an edge rusher. Damn you Joe Namath!
