Let us not confuse willingness to trade down with having to trade down. He can ask for a kings randsome if the right player is there at three and some one wants him bad. Free advertising neither hampers nor benefits. Just like all the talk rumors out of Arizona, which could be driven by the desire to force someone to trade big for the number one pick. There is a lot of great talent within the first 12 spots, most could be a superb addition to the Jets. The flexibility is there to trade down, still get a starting stud, and recapture a couple of picks.
Yes but not exact quote. He did say he wants the equivalent or even more than what he gave up last year because the team moving up would most likely want a QB. Or something like that. I think Mac overall has done a pretty good job to this point - not great but decent. The point I’m trying to make is what he says aloud he should simply keep to himself until he is actually negotiating directly with another team . I feel he puts himself at a disadvantage off the bat ....
We have him quoted as saying he is willing, “determined “ is being projected by a writer trying to get clicks.
You sure put a lot of thought into this. This looks like what Jimmy Johnson used to engineer when running the Cowboys drafts...
Yes, I know that's who you were referring to.. I was just pointing out that Bosa's not a great fit for our D, and unless we're gonna be switching to the 4-3, I think that Allen is a better choice.
Exactly, and it still would cost the Jets a high draft pick to get him. Seattle also plays a 4-3 and Clark is a DE, not an OLB. Has he ever played standing up Can he drop into coverage? No way, I'd trade for him.
I disagree with your first sentence. If a GM says his #3 pick is for sale, imo it's the same thing as saying it's on sale, in other words cheap. It sounds like he's desperate to move down and will take about any offer. Your second sentence (the one bolded) I totally agree with. The best way is to hold your cards close to your vest and wait and see if other GMs contact you. If they haven't contacted you by a week before the draft, then make an announcement.
That wouldn't be bad if you stopped after the first trade. But then when you trade up, it ruins it, and then you ruin it even more by taking Simmons instead of a CB, WR or TE.
I agree, not to mention I love Allen and Bosa. I just think if Mac wants a proven guy at that position that’s how it would go down for us to do it. Unfortunately for that scenario I learned that Seattle doesn’t have a 2nd rounder so throw that out the window
It looks like the Cardinals are also trying to trade back and possible the 49er's. The rumor in AZ is the offer they got to trade to 1 from 4 was below the value chart. It could be a very interesting first few picks. If Murray is no longer a consensus top 10 pick it might change the value a great deal. This draft is loaded with edge rushers and they may have less value in this draft in trade up than any draft in recent history. Without a top 5 QB and LT I suspect the value is going to be lower than many believe to trade up.
Why ? For the same reasons Bill Parcells passed on Orlando Pace ? We have 6 picks, a full complement is 7. We are missing 1 pick. It's not like 35 years ago where there were 12 rounds and we only have 5 picks. If we don't get at least a 50% premium in points on the Draft Value Chart, forget it.
it's not tipping his hand. he's making it clear the pick is up for sale and did a while back. Jets are looking to trade down for more picks so makes sense that we want to make it clear so teams call us up on draft day
The bottom line is that all picks from all teams are up for sale. It's just a matter of price. So there really isn't any need for Macc to advertise he wants to trade down. If a team wants the third pick they'll call whether Macc advertises or not. If he had a stellar record on draft day, maybe a lot of us wouldn't be worried that his public draft mindset would eventually lead to a bad deal. And I'll add this, if he passes on Allen or Bosa, he better make sure the guy he's traded down for puts up similar numbers. If Allen and Bosa end up being 12-15+ sack guys and the guy he drafted further down ends up with 5-8 sacks, it will look very bad for him, unless the other picks he ends up getting further down the draft, are stellar as well which isn't likely with Macc's record.
really depends what else he gets. if bos/allen wind up being 15 sacks guys and who he gets is a 10 sack guy but he adds a good CB1 or above average LT with the extra picks it's wroth it overall
value is very perceived. all depends on the perception of whats available and the wants of the people involved. Saying that you want to trade down doens't diminish value. same way the seahawks saying they want to trade clark doens't make him worse less. teams will be more likely to call up a team they know are looking for a deal then cold calling one that isn't. the 3 pick could be a hot commodity in the draft depending on what teams rate what players and who they think might be gone.
Why would teams be more likely to call up a team they know are looking for a deal? I agree that they may be more likely to call those teams first. I think that's because they think they can get a better deal there than calling a team that hasn't said a word about trading down. Why do you think they'd be more likely to call them first? Due diligence would say that a team should call several teams around the spot to where they want to trade up, regardless of whether they've said anything about trading down or not. OTOH, they may also be more willing to call a team they've dealt with successfully in the past or where the two GMs are friends.
