He will also be 24 when he starts the season, he is versatile but I look at an opportunity to ensure Darnold's blindside is protected going forward after this year. Greg Little will still be 21 with a very high ceiling. Yodny Cajuste is another LT, that I really like in the 2nd round should we trade down. People are down on Little because of the combine, but let's not forget Orlando Brown Jr from last year, who had a much worse outcome and still came into the league and played well.
BTW, I never said he was 250 at FSU. Have to go back and rewatch the combine, but you have to see if he looked comfortable with that weight. He has a really good array of pass-rush moves and as much as I like Josh Allen, Burns has more moves at his disposal and knows how to use them, so in a trade down if you can get a C and an EDGE, I wouldn't complain one bit.
Round 1 Pick 5 (T.B.): Josh Allen, OLB, Kentucky (A) Round 2 Pick 7 (T.B.): Deandre Baker, CB, Georgia (A) Round 3 Pick 4: Riley Ridley, WR, Georgia (A-) Round 3 Pick 6 (T.B.): Michael Jordan, OG/C, Ohio St. (A-) Round 3 Pick 29: Miles Sanders, RB, Penn St. (A+) Round 4 Pick 3: Jachai Polite, DE, Florida (A) Round 6 Pick 23: Nate Herbig, OG, Stanford (A+) Round 7 Pick 3: Dontavius Russell, DT, Auburn (A+)
That weight didn't seem to hamper him at all at the Combine, but that's different than playing in games. Maybin could put on weight, but couldn't keep it on during the season. For Burns' sake (and ours if Mac winds up trading down and taking him), I hope that he can keep the weight on and add some more strength and maybe a little more weight.
I like Greg Little a lot as well, and we do need a backup LT for this season. Little certainly has the size and talent to become a very good starter, but something is missing. Is it work ethic? Poor coaching? Yes, Shell and Winters have been starters, but neither are anything great. Both could easily be upgraded. Granted, we need to fix other spots on the OL first if we can (particularly C), but the draft may not fall that way. Risner can play RT, OG or C, and he has a fiery, nasty attitude on the field. With both Osemele and Reisner having that kind of attitude, our OL could become a dominant OL and be one of the better ones in the NFL (assuming we upgrade the LT and C positions and probably Winters' RG position too.
I respect that no doubt ... and I wouldn't be mad if we drafted Risner. I watched way too much Ole Miss football this year. Little reminds me of Brick, but LESS refined.
I'd be ecstatic if we somehow came out of this draft with one of Risner, Little or Cajuste, but don't see it happening. Also, the OT prospects are supposed to be better next season. We do need a backup LT for this season, and there is some question, however small, about Shell being healthy and his play not dropping off following the injury. Much more important to me is getting that edge rusher and C. I'd also love to add a WR and maybe a backup RB, but anything else is gravy.
His technique needs work. The combine was horrible too. Year 1, come off the bench and gets himself set for next year. Beachum will be gone and all of a sudden, we have a bunch of old lineman on the roster. Shell will be like 28. Little is gifted, long arms, quick feet against speed rushers. He can play, just needs work.
Wow, Shell is already gonna be 28? Winters will be 28 this season too. I'd definitely feel a lot better with Little sitting on the bench behind Beachum and learning, or if Shell isn't healthy or the same player, play at RT this season and then move over to LT next season.
That’s the rub , I am not in a hurry to trade out of a blue chip prospect in order to hope and project a player to do something he hasn’t put on tape . And for what? Am extra chance to take a player that’s not as good as what you passed up. Let’s not be cute here, take Allen, great prospect and a great fit. It’s rare that it just happens for anyone let alone us.
If I had to trade down, it would be for a kings ransom. Need an early first rounder back, a preferably high 2nd rounder and maybe a first or combination of picks for next year. And still, it would be a hard decision.
Yea, I need to end up with a second and a first next year and I don’t want to move out of the top 10. Everyone is hell bent on getting back into the 2nd round but aren’t focusing on what kind of talent we could be giving up to get there. I’d rather consider using a 2020 pick to get back into the 2nd.
I basically agree, and am leaning more towards just staying put and taking Allen. I love him and think he will be a great NFL OLB. My main reason for wanting to trade down is to get a 2nd round pick to insure that we get one of the better centers since Mac decided that he didn't need to sign a center in FA. I don't know which is worse, having to hope that a player that we picked after trading down so we could get a 2nd round pick and draft our center will be able to keep the weight on and succeed setting the edge or having to hope that one of those 3 top centers lasts until our first pick in the 3rd round and that Mac will take him.
Are you advocating trading next year's first for a second round pick this year? If not, I don't see how next year's second alone would get us into the 2nd round this year. We'd have to give up our lower 3rd round pick or 4th, or maybe use Darren Lee. I would be opposed to giving up next year's 1st or 2nd round pick as we will probably need one if not both of those to get our future LT.
I wouldn’t rule it out. Obviously it depends on who is left after Thursday night but if there’s a player with a first rd grade sitting there and it would take next years first to get him then why not? We have no idea who will be available or where we will be picking next year. Using that pick this year and seasoning a player for year could be better for 2020 than a rookie would.
The only way I'd trade next year's first is if it would enable us to draft either Greg Little or Yodney Cajuste, and even then I'd be hesitant. LTs don't make it to FA. Beacham needs to be replaced next season. Unless we get our future LT this year, there will be no way we get our future LT next year without that #1 pick.
Everything I’ve heard about Little is he is a dog and no one hurt himself more during pre draft process than him. I wouldn’t touch him with either of our first 3 picks. 4th I’d possibly take a chance if he is perceived to be salvageable.
