1) Josh Allen OLB- No brainer the Jets have been inept filling this position since Abraham left. 3) Elijah Holyfield RB- Depth 4) Dennis Daley OT- Mean strength pit bull 5) Lamont Gaillard C Still developing center. 6) Max Crosby OLB- 20 sacks in 3 years. Give Williams another toy 7) Iman Marshall CB Good depth at a weak position.
I think that's way too early for Holyfield after his horrible combine (4.78 40). Gaillard is an interesting choice for C. Do you think he could earn a starting spot this year?
I don't see the Jets drafting a RB. Bell, McGuire, Cannon. They may also sign a vet later in the offseason to compete. Would be shocked if they drafted a player at that position. Nice little mock though.
Did you think the Jets were too good to use both of 3rd rd picks? Jets also don’t have a 5th rd pick. Good effort I guess but I think a prerequisite for making a mock should be knowing what picks Jets own.
I got a feeling Allen and Bosa will both be there when we draft. I love Josh Allen. I really like Bosa but his injury history bugs me. Allen seems like he wants to be absolutely great. Love guys like that. Hate the RB at 3 but really like everything else.
You missed one of the third round picks. While I think the Jets will draft a RB to spell Bell ( McGuire is more of a third option ) - the 3rd round is too early. I never heard of Daley. As far as center I'm hoping McCoy is still there when the 3rd round comes around......
I went online to double check their picks. That was the count they had. Had a flight to catch but next time I'll cross check it. I did go online to verify their picks. That was the listing. Had a flight to catch. Next time I'll cross check it.
I wouldn't go RB with my 2nd pick, or probably even my 3rd now that we have Bell. Would rather take an OL with those picks, maybe OL/CB. I do think they should look for a RB - a FB type with their 4th rounder.
Before I respond to the picks themselves, you have the Jets' picks wrong. They have two 3rd round picks and no 5th round pick. 1. Love the Allen pick. 3a. I like Holyfield, but that's waaaay too high for him. After his Combine and Pro Day, he's likely to still be there in the 6th round. I think this is where they need to take a C if McCoy or Jenkins should happen to fall. If not, then they probably should look to take McGovern (C). Failing that and depending upon how the OGs are rated, they should either take an OG, a WR or a CB here. 3b. I'm not that high on Daley, and think the Jets would be better served taking a player from one of the three positions listed above that they didn't take with the 3a pick. 4 - I think this is too late to take a C prospect. I read one scouting report that thinks Gaillard has a chance to become a starting C in the NFL, but no one else I've seen rates him that highly. I'd look to either take one of the 3 positions listed at 3a or a RB here. 6 - Blocking TE or dynamic return man. 7 - STer
I do, because they need a quality backup to Bell. I don't know why posters seem to ignore this. They act like Bell is gonna play every offensive down in all 16 games. Even if Bell didn't have an injury history (which he definitely does), Gase has clearly stated that they're not going to overwork Bell, so there is need for another quality RB and neither McGuire nor Cannon fit that description. Bell has only played in all 16 games once in his 6 year career. He averages missing around 3.4 games a season due to injuries, so the Jets need a RB who can run the ball when Bell isn't on the field, so the offense doesn't grind to a halt. McGuire's a decent receiver out of the backfield, but is only meh as a rusher. Cannon hasn't shown anything. DeAngelo Henderson, Sr. didn't show anything last year with the Jets. In addition, with Bell sitting out last season, he's going to be rusty, not used to getting hit, and could be more injury prone. If they sign Ware, then there won't be a need to take a RB. They might decide to anyway, but I doubt it if they've signed Ware. I don't think signing Montgomery will help as he's more of a receiver than rusher, and the same goes for TJ Yeldon. If they don't sign one of them or draft a RB, then they're going to have to sign a camp cut to back up Bell. I'd love to see them draft Darrell Henderson in the 4th round if he's still available. He's a HR threat and is both a good rusher and receiver.
I disagree. If this was a good year for OL, then I'd agree, but it isn't. Next year's draft is going to be a very deep one for OL. Next year is the year that we should take multiple OL. If we can get a center with our 3a pick, I'll be happy. There are a couple of OG prospects I like if they're still available in the 4th round, but otherwise, I think we need to draft a CB and a WR or RB. Mac is also likely to take a TE as he likes the TEs in this draft, and at present, we only have one TE (Herndon) that we can count on.
I wouldn't mind drafting a power back, but don't want a FB. I'd rather add a great blocking TE like Foster Moreau. If we draft a RB, I'd rather it be someone like Darrell Henderson of Memphis. He's a playmaker and HR threat any time he steps on the field.
Nah. They are gonna roll with Bell, McGuire, Montgomery, and Cannon. 6 draft picks is all they have as we sit here 2 weeks out. Would be foolish to invest into a position that is set with a Star and quality depth. Jets were always going to add a vet to the backfield.
Now that they've signed Montgomery, I don't think they will, but sorry, I totally disagree that Montgomery, McGuire and Cannon are "quality" depth. I think the depth is pretty awful.
McGuire is young and proved he can play. He is at worst a solid receiving option. I think he is probably a little underrated as a RB on this team. With better oline play, he would be viewed much differently. Cannon isn’t even going to make the team so he is irrelevant. Montgomery has proven to be capable running and receiving. He isn’t as good at running as he is receiving, but he is definitely a good backup to Bell. We don’t typically disagree, so I am not sweating it too much.
Yeah, we usually agree, but no one said that we always had to agree. I think it's decent depth, just think that "quality" is a bit of a stretch. McGuire has proved that he's a good receiver, but hasn't shown much as a rusher. Perhaps you're right that he will with a better OL. If so, then I think it will upgrade my opinion of the depth. IMO quality depth would be if both of the backup RBs were both good rushers and good receivers. We can't throw the ball all the time. We have to be able to run the ball to keep opposing Ds off balance. With this depth at RB, we'd better hope that Bell is able to stay healthy and play all 16 games this season, or it could be a long, frustrating season, regardless of how well our D plays.
Thanks. I'll look forward to what he can do for us. I've seen Green Bay play pretty often as they're often shown because of Rodgers, and with the exception of maybe 2016, Montgomery never seemed to do much or impress me.
Montgomery as a featured RB is blah. Montgomery as back up and offensive weapon is exciting. I’m excited to see some packages with Bell and Montgomery on the field together, the possibilities are endless with a creative offensive coaching staff.
