Also, having a veteran on the sideline with Sam in important... I still wish we could sign McCown on as a coach to continue mentoring Sam.
Unless he still wants to play, I doubt there is anything that says the Jets can't just hire him as an assistant QB coach or something and pay him whatever for his time. The investment would be worth it.
I’m thinking if he doesn’t want to play it’s because he wants to spend more time with his family , which would preclude him from coaching, also ... maybe after a year off he’d want to come back but that’s a year too late . I’m hoping for continuity with Sam ... I think that will be pivotal in his development Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Welcome to the board. While that doesn't sound too terrible in theory it also has QB controversy written all over it. Not that Rosen would beat out Sam, but the dick factor with Rosen is high, especially if heaven forbid Sam were to get hurt and Rosen did well. I'd rather him go to a team where he would be back up to an established veteran and have him work himself in that way. On the other hand, I also don't really give a crap what happens to Rosen's career, haha.
That sure would be fun. It would take some stones so I doubt the Jets would do it, but why not. Bring him in and let the best man win, thats what it should be all about
If we play our cards right we can “showcase” this guy this year and slap a 2nd round tender on him hoping someone matches it. To think the Jets pulling a move like that seems crazy I know.
That would be great, but if he is playing so well that some team is willing to match, and he is willing to stay as our long-term backup, why not keep him? It would give great stability at the position, and if Sam were to get injured and have to miss some time, we wouldn't have to worry about the backup.
It's possible McCown could be a type of "consultant." He'd work with Sam during OTAs and TC, and then would be available for phone consultation during the season. McCown would be able to be with his family except for a few days during OTAs, and 6 weeks of TC. They could even make it so he had weekends off during TC or only worked the first 3 weeks of TC or something like that.
Makes way more sense $ wise than McCown at $10M or anywhere near that amount. With that said, may he never play a single snap this season unless it's 40-0 in our favor. @Brook! change thread title plz.
