He could have come out of last years draft with Mayfield, Rosen or Josh Allen. He didn't he got his guy. Stop with the Mac can't draft or build a team. He did two critical things, he drafted the best QB in last years draft and cleaned up our cap. We arguably got the best Head Coach not named Bruce Arians who wouldn't have come here. We got a great DC. There are people in place who are solid who will have input in this draft. This team is on the right track.

disagree 100%. you can't be "lucky" because in order for a player to "fall" to us another GM has to like someone else better and take them instead in front of mac. which means mac could have done the same.

in 2015 we could have taken kevin white or erik flowers instead of williams. both positions were more of a need as well then williams was. both were taken in the top 10 and both were busts. mac deserves credit for taking williams over drafting for a need. the jags took fowler 3rd overall over williams and williams has been better and the jags already traded off fowler.

in 2017 we could have taken a WR like mike williams (just ok) or john ross (bust) again more of a need at WR then safety, but nope we took adams who is already a top 3 player at his position. the titans took corey davis over adams who has been just ok so far but not top 5 worth and not a top player at his position. the niners and jags both passed on adams for lesser players as well

the point being that the draft is a crapshoot and there is no such thing as guaranteed no matter what the consensus says you gotta give a GM the credit for the picks the make that turn out good regardless if you consider it a "no brainer" or not

I agree that the team is on the right track with the possible exception of Mac. Mac can't draft until he learns to find talent in the 2nd- 7th rounds with some degree of consistency. The next 2nd round pick that he hits on will be his first, I believe.

Less than 20% of 2nd round picks are starters in the NFL and it goes down from there? Past performance based on 4 drafts is probably statistically irrelevant. Saying Mac can't draft is sort of like bitching about saying I "expect" 10 wins.

If that statistic is true then things have changed a lot, because it used to be higher, and I think a lot higher. Beyond that I disagree with the rest of your post, so we'll just have to agree to disagree.

    Since 1980 HOF
    1st round: 38
    2nd round: 10
    3rd round: 4
    4th round: 3
    5th round: 1
    6th round: 0
    7th round: 1
    UDFA: 2

I don't know if Mac can draft or not. You don't either. I think we agree, we just said it differently.

Being a HOFer is different than being a starter.

I know that to date, Mac hasn't drafted well. He's made some very bad decisions/picks, and enough facts and information are mounting that strongly suggest that he does not have a good eye for talent.

You keep saying that without providing any facts. Your opinion isn't a fact no matter how much you try to characterize it as fact. The draft is a comparative analysis with a huge amount of variables. 1 great draft in 10 years can shape a franchise. It doesn't prove they can or can't draft well.

Compare his track record with Ryan Pace. Mac has not done a good job outside of the first round.

Hack, Mauldin, Stewart, Hansen, and Smith have all been misses so far in rounds 2-4. He hasn't had a great draft yet. Herndon looks like a steal from last year, I'll give him credit there.

What is your problem? It's like you're looking for an argument or a fight. Well, you won't get one here.

I didn't say that my opinion is fact, but take a look at who he has picked in the draft, and then check to see if they're still on the Jets' roster or any NFL teams' roster for that matter. That will tell you all you need to know about Mac's drafting prowess. I totally disagree, and won't agree with you on this, so LET IT GO.

He hasn't had a great draft yet. Even though most of the players he has taken are still on the team, quite a few of them have contributed little. It's also not just a matter of players he picked not making the team, but rather the positions he has failed to upgrade. The OL has had two middle round draft picks. The LB corps has had one 1st round and two 3rd round picks, but he has had to fill out the LB corps with FAs, and none of his LB picks have produced. With the exception of Anderson, who was a UDFA, Mac has failed to upgrade the WR corps via the draft. He needs to not only seriously upgrade those three position groups, but needs to add some solid role players and quality depth as well as some playmakers on both offense and defense.

I have given Mac credit before, and in fact just a couple of years ago, was one of the few on this site who defended the job he has done as GM of the Jets. He has done well with the cap, and with 95% or more of the contracts. His trades to obtain veterans have been very good. His FA record is spotty, with some good moves and some bad ones. His draft record is definitely lacking. The only thing that probably has saved his job is that he hasn't missed on a 1st round pick yet. To try to make the claim that we can't know whether Mac has been good at drafting so far is ridiculous.

2015 draft - one player out of six, Leonard Williams, is still on the team, maybe Petty and Simon are still marginally in the NFL.

2016 draft - Five out of seven players still on the team. Darron Lee was Mac's worst 1st round pick, and his time with the team may be short. Hackenberg was a total bust, and may have kept Mac from taking Mahomes or Watson. Jenkins is decent. He's good at setting the edge and vs the run, but doesn't provide much in the way of a pass rush, and I think is a little on the slow side. Shell is a decent RT, but could easily be upgraded. IMO he's more of a backup-type OT rather than a starter, but I still will give Mac credit for trading up to take him in the 5th round. Burris had a decent rookie season, then seemed to lose his confidence. He's no longer on the team, but I think is still holding on in the NFL. Edwards was a good pick. He's getting better and better. Peake is a good STer and that's about all one can ask for a 7th round pick, although he has made a few contributions on offense.

2017 draft - Six of nine players are still on the team. Mahomes and Watson were sitting right there for the taking and the Jets still had a desperate need at QB. Mac passed on both, and wound up having to trade up in 2018. I'm glad that we have Darnold, but would much rather have had Mahomes. I love Jamal Adams, and with Mac not taking a QB probably because of Hack, Adams was my next choice. He should be a HOFer. Maye is a good player if he can stay healthy and on the field. He could wind up being the Jets best 2nd round pick in a long time. He could also wind up being another Devin Smith or Millner. That isn't Mac's fault however. Stewart and Hansen were bad picks and no longer in the NFL AFAIK. I liked the Leggett pick, but he has been a disappointment. Hopefully, he starts producing this year. Dylan Donohue has some talent, but being young and stupid cost him his chance with the Jets. I'll be curious to see if he gets another chance in the NFL. The jury is out on Clark and Jones, but if they stick, it will probably be only due to the lack of depth or anyone better. Mac had chances to replace one or both of them in FA and chose not to. They need to produce this year. McGuire doesn't offer much as a RB but is a decent receiver out of the backfield.

2018 draft - Six of six players are still on the team. Had to get a QB, and made a smart move to trade up early and got the QB he coveted due to the Giants' stupidity. Sam is gonna be our FQB. I'm rooting for Shepherd, but we got practically nothing from him last year. I'm hoping that was due to Bowles and Rodgers, but he may just be a good story and a bust as an NFL football player. Herndon was a great pick in the 4th round and looks like he could be a very good TE for us. Nickerson has a lot of speed, but showed little last year. I'm rooting for him, but he needs to start showing some production.. The same goes for Fatukasi. I like both of them, but they need to develop. Cannon was worth a shot, I guess, but at this point, all I can see is a fast small guy on the field. He needs to find his niche and start contributing or we can use his roster spot for someone who can contribute.

His last two drafts are looking pretty good getting two culture changers in back to back drafts. Add another one this year and we’re on our way.

Yet last years draft where we got a starting QB and a starting TE may have well been the best draft we have had since 2000 when we had 4 first rounders. Getting a starting QB and a starting TE in the same draft is a complete home run.

I have never contended Mac is a great drafter. The characterization that he can't draft, which is what NCJetfan claims is where I part company. The shocking reality about the draft is if you compared every NFL draft board, on day 1 they are virtually identical and your pick is often decided by what the guy above you does. A one pick difference in evaluation can be the difference between a quality starter and a bust. An injury can make a GM look like a tool vs. a genius.

Most of the fans think we had a terrible coaching staff. That may have had an impact on how we drafted? I suspect the input will be decidedly different this year. The fact that we have a starting QB completely changes the dynamic of this draft as does the FA moves we made and the coaching staff.

I have no issue with a dark side or sunshiner making an argument for a position. Facts because I say so isn't an argument. It's drivel.

    I think you mean:

The New York Jets select, Fullback (agonized howl of 'oh no!' from the gallery), Josh Jacobs.

One of the funniest moments in Jets history. I mean, Rozelle just says 'fullback' and this guy absolutely howls 'Oh no!!!!!!"

    Priceles.

I never said they were facts because I say so. That's a strawman argument and is trolling. I said that it's my opinion that Mac can't draft because "to date" he hasn't done a good job in the draft, and he hasn't. The latter is a fact. He hasn't fixed the OL, the CB position, the WR position, the RB or the LB position with his drafting. He's had to use FA and trades. It is a fact that aside from Shell, Mac has done NOTHING in the draft to upgrade the OL. It is a fact that the only decent WR he has added to the team was Anderson, a UDFA and that he missed badly on Stewart and Hansen. It is a fact that Lee is his worst 1st round pick, that Jenkins doesn't add much to the pass rush, and that Mauldin is no longer with the team, and as a result, we're still looking for an edge rusher and Mac has had to fill out the OLB corps with FAs. It's also a fact that the two RBs he has drafted are bottom of the roster-type players. It's also a fact that a number of the players he has drafted have contributed little or nothing to the team.

  20. No 2 draft boards are identical.not even close.Teams prioritize different traits far reaching beyond even need or scheme.Perhaps compared to days 2-3 there are more similarities on day 1..but make no mistake..no 2 teams share much in common in terms of prospect rankings or overriding strategy once the draft is underway.

Theres a reason teams like the Steelers have had such great success in the draft. Its not an exact science but its not a crapshoot either. Its an art form.

It goes beyond Mac however.Jets need long term fixtures in their top level scouts/player personnel.Wheres our John Wooten,Gil Brandt or Dick Haley? If they wantva new era of jets football hows about a new approach to the scouting dept? The 70s cowboys were determined to be innovative & a cut above both in philosophy & technologically..thats set the stage for alot of winning and alot of great draft picks.Thats where the jets need to start
