Each nite is huge at this point,,,,,take care of your business ( and try to score some goals ) and the rest will take care of itself but there are some interesting games on the slate tonight and the entire week. But first things first before I get my balls twisted this evening watching hockey Tanaka is on the mound in the Bronx !
I am expecting a regulation loss tonight at WPG. Two other games of interest. Caps at Canes and on the NHLN its the Canadiens at Blue Jackets. At this point I think the Caps are winning the division so I hope they beat Carolina in regulation. Keep them 4 back of the Isles. Also hoping for a Blue Jackets regulation win over Montreal. If that happens and the Isles lose in regulation (likely scenario) then both the Isles and Canadiens would have just 4 games left with the Isles holding a 5 point lead. The good news for the Isles is they still have the Sabres and Panthers on their schedule which should be wins as both of those teams suck.
What a comeback. I expected a loss tonight. The Isles can serve me my big bowl of crow now. Best win of the year. Win Saturday against the Sabres and we clinch a playoff spot. Best part for me is I will be at the game on Saturday. Coming from NJ. LGI
Awesome win for the Isles tonight! 5 goals in 1 game? Didn't see that one coming. The best part about tonight is for most of the night it looked like the Isles and Caps were going to lose, so Penguins fans got excited, then both teams came back and won on the road, ruining the night for Pens fans.
The top line won that game, first time in a while top line punished the opponent. That was a great and much needed win.
Thank you Nashville. Beat the Pens 3-1 tonight. Isles now control their own destiny to get the #2 seed and home ice. Hoping for the division but at the very least get the 2 spot and home ice against the Pens which is the most likely matchup at this point.
Islanders MUST take care of their own business as our schedule is MUCH tougher than Pens ----Pens play Red Wings twice and Rangers and Hurricanes
Big opportunity tomorrow for the Islanders as they host the Sabres while the Caps play at the Lightning. If the Isles win and Caps lose, it would separate the teams by 1 point, and they play in the finale so basically each would control their destiny for the Metro. Speaking of the Lightning, they have a +100 goal differential. 2nd best is the Flames with +59. The Caps are +30, while the Isles are +25. Unreal. The Penguins loss was nice tonight, as you said, their schedule is easy to end the season, so any separation is nice. I would post all of this in the NHL thread, but I feel like the Isles thread is where the action is at right now.
I hope they don’t have a drop off tonight, sometimes games against big time teams are followed up with duds. I know the end of the season has been up and down for Islanders but that’s what happens when teams are fighting for playoffs. Hopefully this will help them prepare mentally for the playoffs if and when they get in.
It’s sick how easy the lighting have made it look. I’m also going to give probs to the Capitals for not letting the Stanley Cup win prevent them from staying hungry. You know I’m a Caps Fan as long as they don’t play the Isles. I’ll be rooting for Ovie to win a second SC if Isles get knocked out of playoffs.
Just as I was rooting for the Caps last year because Ovechkin was just too great to not get a Cup, I’ll be on the Lightning band wagon this year if it’s not the Isles. They are too good of a team not to see win, other than watching my team beat them. Fortunately I’d rather see us play the Lightning in the East finals rather than the Bruins so I won’t have to root against the Lightning until we play them.
Yeah, I am proud of the Capitals efforts this year too. Especially Ovechkin. Finally gets over the hump, parties all Summer, you would think he may take a step back. Instead going for his 50th goal of the season tonight. Tampa Bay is on a different level right now, but you never know what will happen once the playoffs start. Same for the Isles, that is why I have been telling fans just get in and see what happens. I like the Lightning too, but I hope someone beats them. It is going to take a hot goalie and some luck.
Game had a good start team has good jump a lot of legs and they already had a few chances,,,,,,,,,,hopefully this translates into a win !
Have to spank the bad teams as well as the good teams---Congrats Islander fans and enjoy this as the New York Islanders are IN THE PLAYOFFS!
Congratulations, Isles fans! Welcome back to the big show! Big wins tonight for the Isles and Caps. Now a 2 team race for the Metro, but brings up another interesting game tomorrow: Hurricanes-Penguins. The Cane are only 2 points back of Pittsburgh. They could potentially pull ahead of them and end up playing the Islanders in Round 1. This last week of the season should be exciting, then the playoffs even more so!
