If forced to choose five: Hill Street Blues Law and Order M*A*S*H The Office (U.S. version) Star Trek: The Next Generation Note that for almost all of them I don't include all of the seasons - often it either took a while for a show to get started (Star Trek: The Next Generation) or it overstayed its welcome (Law and Order, The Office). Honorable mention: Cheers Downton Abbey ER Friends The Mary Tyler Moore Show Mission: Impossible The Wonder Years A few limited series that I thought were absolutely great: Band of Brothers I, Claudius John Adams Guilty pleasures: The first five seasons of Castle (what can I say, I'm a sucker for Stana Katic). The first six seasons of Gilmore Girls (hey, I like Lauren Graham a lot too).
If only the thread was titled top 5 shows of all time instead of YOUR top 5 all time tv shows. No one cares about your opinion. Lighten up
Like the book thread, this is a thread about favorite shows, not consensus “best” shows which is much too subjective. I’ve been watching TV for 50 plus years and I would have to say, Breaking Bad is, far and away, the best I have ever seen. In that it is MY favorite because I am of the opinion that it is the best- not that the general all time TV watching consensus that it is the best. I also liked Baywatch. Because the boobies. So sue me.
A bit more genre- & mood-dependent for me. From what I've actually watched, Action/Drama: Line of Duty (Beats Breaking Bad in many ways for me) Breaking Bad Vikings Game of Thrones Dexter (Season 4 especially, John Lithgow is a gem) Honourable Mentions: The Last Kingdom, Hawaii Five-0 Comedy: Parks and Recreation Brooklyn Nine Nine IT Crowd Atlanta The Good Place Honourable Mentions: Community, Freaks & Geeks, Fresh Prince of Bel Air, The Office Sci Fi / Fantasy: Star Gate (SG-1 & Atlantis) Stranger Things Star Trek (TNG, Voyager, DS9, Enterprise, and Disco. Love em all.) Westworld Daredevil Honourable Mentions: The Punisher, Travelers Anime / Cartoons: One Punch Man Code Geass Avatar The Last Airbender Batman the Animated Series Star Wars Clone Wars Honourable Mentions: Transformers and Spiderman.
^Oh, frig it, something happhapp with the quoting option and I couldn't fix it. Anyway, click expand, it's about 'I, Claudius' and 'Deadwood' (it's coming back. <=== : ) Hopefully it doesn't suck. EDIT: WTF is happhapp. Beats the shit out of me, but I'm leaving it.
Honeymooners The Odd Couple Monty Python's Flying Circus Saturday Night Live Sanford and Son BJ and the Bear ( hey i was 12 and there were hot chicks everywhere) Early Married with Children Seinfeld In Living Color
Not sure it is top 5, but my wife and I are re-watching Deadwood in preparation for the movie that is coming out eventually (HBO only I think). I enjoy the show a lot, and now that we are rewatching, a lot of what happens in the beginning is clearer since you know all the characters.
@jetophile : I just picked up the entire DVD set of the old TV show "The Invaders" in color. Quinn Martin productions sure used to have his stamp on them!
Isn't that another fun show that only ran for one or two seasons? :/ Probably didn't last because the McCarthy era was over - that we know of . . . Yep, we're still being spied on amongst other horrors. Oh, goody, yet another opportunity presents itself for me to tell that piece of conscienceless Mark Zuckerberg who belongs in a jail cell to go fck himself! So fck you, Mark Zuckerberg!
