No I hear ya. Drafting a FQB vs drafting a Bust is still a crap shoot, even after hundreds of hours of film study. The best they can get to is MAYBE 50:50. Sometimes is seems like the more work they do, the more likely they are to draft a bust.
It could be the worst draft of all time. I am sure there have been drafts where a team a whiffed on all 7 picks, but 11 of 12? Its why after 1.5 seasons, I saw that we needed to fire this guy ASAP he was that bad. I am normally not that impatient.
That is my concern.. The last thing I want him to do is package both 3rd round picks to move up and take a marginal player like Tanny would do (remember trading 3 picks to move up and take slow ass Shonn Greene). I'm also concerned he may trade back the #3 overall pick and get swindled (where during his tenure have we ever thought he got the better end of draft day trades? Yes he got Sam but paid a big price and he could have stayed and picked one of the other QB's.. not that I wanted any of the others aside from Mayfield. Time will tell how that plays out) and wind up with marginal talent with whatever those picks turn out to be for them. I'd much rather he stay put especially in round 3 and take good players. There are still holes so in this draft I'd prefer he plug holes with players that will become starters in the 1st 3 rounds rather than taking BPA. This team is not yet in position to take BPA imho.
Women are barren, men are sterile (Murr from impractical jokers).. his draft's in those rounds have made him seem like a woman
I dont buy this... Is not having a QB why the 8 picks after jamal adams produced next to nothing? is not having a QB why we took safties with our top 2 picks? Is not having a QB why Darron Lee was a miss? burris, shell, edwards, and peake dont contribute? Is not having a QB with Devon Smith, mauldin, jarvis harrison and simon havent amounted to anything? You want to give him a pass on petter and hackenberg and live with whatever Darnold becomes from good to elite? yeah im 100% onboarding with that. But i dont see how not having a QB has anything to do with Mac consistently NOT being able to find starters/contributors in rounds 2 through 7. only 5 of the 7 picks mac has made in the top 2 rounds were QBs. We have little to show for macs drafts other then the "duh" picks where we take arguably the drafts top player at #3 - #6 overall. any pick that wasnt obvious has bascally be awful other then maybe jenkins and still to soon to tell on maye and some from last year. Our #3 pick will get the headline, but mac cant swing and miss completely again rounds 2-7
Yeah, that's right--exactly why he drafted FOUR defensive backs and THREE receivers in the 2017 draft, but ZERO offensive linemen or defensive lineman in the same draft (dumb shit). Oh, I get it, he spent all his time watching tape on the DBs and receivers and never watched any tape of the OL or DL. He must think the game is won outside the numbers exclusively, not ever won in the trenches.
Nice post. In addition to everything you reference Mac stupidly took Wrs Stewart and Hansen back to back in rounds 3-4 in 2017--both were off the jets next year. Shortly after he took Hansen in 2017, I saw Mac crowing on ESPN about how he stole "The receiver from California in round 4," although he could not remember his name.
Mac knows when he wakes up he's a Mike...everything else is pushing it..ahahah The evidence Jersey Jay produced is surmounting...Macagnan is as big a Loser as Bowles..never deserved an extention and should have been canned The move for Darnold was so out of character for him....his seat was getting as hot as TB so he made it happen He's under pressure now but he's got a CS to help (with everything..heheh)
Not to defend Mac, because I'm not a big fan of his either...but did Bowles have any sway over some of these pics? Because remember with our structure it was both Toilet and Mac reported to the owner. Could it be that Bowles was allowed to get a few of "his guys" that we're perhaps wrongly blaming Mac for? Just speculating. I have no idea one way or the other
He may have, but a week or so ago, Mac claimed that Bowles never gave him any feedback on what types of players or which specific players he would like, just said get him good players and he would coach 'em up. Now Mac could be lying, but I would think that Bowles would have called BS on that if it weren't true.
there were reports that the CS wanted Alvin Kamara and Macc as usual talked himself out of it (see Mahomes and Watson too)
So what. He loved Jamal Adams more. Most GM's did. lol. Many even predicted and claimed as best player within entire draft. And two years later we've got ourselves the face of our defense and a Pro-Bowl cornerstone Safety. Mahomes on the Jets? No guarantee he would have not struggled behind our O-Line and lack of playmakers at both WR and RB (until now). And then fans would be killing Macc for taking MAHOMES and NOT Jamal Adams lol Jamal Adams was a better prospect than Mahomes. Deal with it. Get over it. Macc hit a HR @ #6 in #33.
Keep in mind that same GM also cut Q durung final cuts so I am not sure how much credit you can give him.
they weren't talking about Alvin in the first round. it was whether to move up from where they were in the third. Instead we traded back with Minny; Minny picked its starting center (Elfein), we moved back and picked ArDarius who as far as I know is now out of football. So Macc really stunk it up twice or thrice over missing out on a great back and a starting center and getting a big fat 0 with their third round pick And what's not to like about Jamal? Separate issue. But if you think Jamal is better than Mahomes or Watson value wise you're entitled to that opinion; others may disagree. And with no disrespect to Sam, if we drafted either of those guys we'd have 3 second round picks (and that's not assuming a trade back for those guys -- i.e., the tactic he blundered in the 3d round) and instead of Sam we'd have someone like Q.Nelson protecting Mahomes or Watson and they'd all be on rookie-scale contracts And I don't buy your comment about O-line. Again while liking Sam, if you think he's better at running away from a pass rush because of a crappy O-line than those other two quarterbacks I think that's mistaken Edit: Assume Mahomes or Watson (no trade back -- i.e., Macc overdrafts), and assume he listened to his coaches about Kamara, we could have had (i.e., people picked in our slots) Mahomes/Watson (rookie contract) Kamara/ rookie contract, pro bowler -- or if he couldn't grab him Elfein starting young center (in Jet's slot) Q.Nelson G (pro bowl rookie year; instead of Darnold), Braden Smith G (chosen with our 2d round pick) (and this year's second and next year's second) Sure we wouldn't have Jamal and Sam but that's pretty stout. under either scenario AND keep in mind the point of this post was to address the issue or suggestion that the CS didn't give Macc input. That allegation has been questioned in the media
Well you don't think you can blame Bowles for that... How can a HC not tell the GM the types of players he needs for his system? Doesn't make much sense does it. I expect Mac's drafts to get better as we actually have coaches on our team that can actually COACH.
Personally, I'd like to see how Mahomes does if Tyreek Hill gets suspended. He was absolutely loaded with weapons last year. Next year, Darnold could have a better year than Mahomes. Who knows, so stop using hindsight after only one year in the NFL to judge a draft decision.
The point of the post was not to say how great hindsight it; it wasn't to say I wish we had Mahomes. It was to show that Macc stinks and has stunk since day 1. the excuse that he supposedly wasn't getting suggestions from the CS has been questioned regarding Alvin K. regardless that's a lame excuse anyway. Supposedly he's thinking his coach isn't that great, and he wants that coach to tell him who to pick even though he's hoping that coach gets swapped out??? The GM should be helping set an identity for the type of team the GM wants and getting players accordingly. the CS excuse is classic passing the buck
