Wow, if Bosa and Allen are both on the board at #3 I'd have a hard time choosing. I would probably be on the phone with Mike Mayock asking if he wanted to swap #3 and #4 plus another day 2 pick.
This is sounding like the 1981 Draft, where Hugh Green of powerful Pitt was the "safe" choice but a super-freak of an athelete from UNC -- a basketball school !!! -- was deemed maybe the best athlete in the draft. That freak was Lawrence Taylor. Allen is probably better than Hugh Green and Bosa is no LT but it smacks of it a bit.
Industry speculation. I guess most "NFL types" think Allen is the better fit in 3-4. It probably means next to nothing, but they could logically draft Allen over Bosa given the choice.
I'm a huge fan of these Kentucky Kids. If we draft Snell, they will be playing " Benny and Jets" at Met Life all the time. Snell's combine #s hurt his stock some, he could be available in late 3 or early 4th round.
Can you imagine Allen, Lindstrom or McCoy, and Snell with our first 3 picks? I'd have wood all summer.
good with either but i think if both are there you have to go bosa because the D will spend most of it's time in nickel which suits him better. I worry about his health though.
That's the beautiful thing about Allen ... he can play in any scheme. In a 4-3 they could actually play linebacker and you can move him to a DE in nickel / pass rush situations. Von Miller and Khalil Mack had similar roles. His ability to cover is much better then I gave him credit for.
Mac has to take our Edge Rusher at 3 if either Bosa or Allen available The upside is we will be getting a consensus blue chip, quality player hopefulay with us a long time and getting better The downside is our next pick is not until 68 ....and fellas that a long wait
I totally disagree with your first sentence. Bosa is strictly one dimensional. Allen is multi-dimensional. He can drop into coverage, rush the passer, and is great vs the run. He's a productive player, whereas Bosa with all his talents had pedestrian production in college. If Allen's gone and Bosa's there at #3, I'm trading down 10 times out of 10. I agree with your second sentence, and imo you don't draft a player at #3 for whom you have health concerns.
I think he would be an excellent backup to Bell, and who knows...maybe it would even help entice Matt Snell to forgive the Jets and come home.
I think at this point I only like Bosa at pick#3. If he is gone, I’m trying to trade down a few picks to the 6-10 range if at all possible. Allen has neither the speed nor the brawn (IMO) to be an elite NFL pass rusher. Curiously enough a lot of the scouting reports say his NFL comparisons is Anthony Barr, which is probably about right. Williams doesn’t fit this defense. So it’s Bosa (safe!) for me OR trade out + target DK Metcalf or Montez Sweat as they are risky picks but have the potential to be elite-game changing pro’s.
I totally disagree. Allen is 2-3x better than Bosa. If Bosa's so great, how come his college production wasn't very good. If Allen's so bad, how come his college production against superior competition was much better? I just don't get the Bosa love. If he didn't have a brother in the NFL or all the hype because of that, I doubt if anyone would be so high on him.
