Darnold is not a savior however if the Jets draft right and support him well we're going to win a lot of games with him. Put another way: without good management and coaching Darnold is going to be like any other promising young QB - up the creek without a paddle.
Most kids run to social media and Twitter once drafted. Not Darnold. Darnold is a kid who after the draft immediately left to spend time with a beautiful kid friend of his who was sick and in a hospital. I loved his Rose Bowl performance etc but right then and there I knew we had our savior for our Franchisee to be confident in.
Actually he posted a bunch of photos and videos on Instagram the day he was drafted and the day after.
Yeah I was waiting for a link to an article because it sounds good but it doesn't really fit. I looked for it but can't find anything of the sort. Look, I love Sam, been sucking for Sam for 3 years, he is clearly my favorite Jet and he seems to have an outstanding makeup and upbringing. I think it's almost unanimous with Jet fans. However Sam and his Mom, Dad, sister, 3 best friends, USC and HS coach and his agent were all with Sam in person AT the draft in Dallas. So when he didn't go to social media but instead "immediately left to spend time with a beautiful kid friend of his who was sick and in a hospital", did he immediately leave the stadium and draft and his family, friends and coaches at 9 o'clock (or later) at night to take a private flight back to San Clemente to spend time with his dear sick friend in the hospital and then fly back to Dallas the next morning? Clearly, a few days after the draft he went to visit sick kids at a pediatric hospital in Morristown, but given his unfamiliarity with NJ it is likely none of those sick children was the beautiful sick kid friend that DWC was referring to. Sounds like something someone would make up for no reason. Btw, immediately after he was drafted, Sam shot a commercial spot sponsored by Bose and the NFL for Bose headphones that he posted to social media Instagram the night of the draft. Jet hat and all. Maybe DWC found it on MySpace.
Sam has certain qualities that a lot of these other "good" quarterbacks don't seem to possess. He's coach-able. He doesn't let mistakes get him down. He's a bit of a gambler. He's tough. He's smart. He's a leader. He doesn't fumble (on purpose). He doesn't grab his junk on the sideline. He's not getting punched by teammates. But most of all, he's likable. Don't laugh...that's important. His likability gives him the wiggle room to develop without getting tore up in the press and by the fans. This will be a very interesting season. New coaches. New players. Same old Jets? Let's hope not.
Tom Brady, Aaron Rodgers, and Ben Roethlisberger aren't likable, and it hasn't stopped them from winning Super Bowls.
Yeah...they're pricks. They also won big early. They didn't have the NY press and the hope & expectations of a long disappointed fan base weighing on their shoulders. If Sam starts winning Super Bowls for us he can be as foul as he wants.
I don’t know what the TBB is but feel free to quote me stating anything close to what ever it is you are rambling off about
100% yes.....his last quarter of the season at such a young age, and with a bad supporting cast says it all to me Darnold, Baker, and Mahomes will be running the AFC for the next decade
Darnold made so many plays all by himself last season. He was running for his life and throwing into very tight windows constantly. Now imagine how good he could be throwing from a clean pocket to receivers that are schemed open. In my Bart Scott voice CANT WAIT !!!
Think about a clean pocket with the options of Robby Herndon Quincy Crowder AND Bell to throw to. Fuck this offense could be fun to watch.
All rookie QB's make a lot of rookie mistakes, as did Sam, but not all rookies learn from and end their rookie campaign guns blazing as our kid QB in Darnold just did. Darnold was down right impressive during our final 4 games and that is exciting heading into only his sophomore season.
I believe he was the highest rated passer in the NFL over the final 4 weeks, and thats even with the offensive clunker vs New England week 17
