https://jetswire.usatoday.com/2019/..._medium=recirc&utm_campaign=rail-most-popular Report: Jets, in desperate need of a center, never offered Matt Paradis, Mitch Morse With the Jets sorely in need of a starting center, one would have thought Mike Maccagnan would offer two of the best free agents available. Matt Paradis or Mitch Morse would have been massive upgrades for an offensive line that needs someone in front of Sam Darnold, but neither received a contract proposal from Gang Green, according to The Daily News’ Manish Mehta. Paradis signed a three-year deal with the Panthers worth $27.03 million and $13.5 million in guarantees, while Morse joined the rival Bills on a four-year pact worth $44.5 million and $26.5 million in guarantees. Manish Mehta ✔@MMehtaNYDN Center remains a big need for Jets. I've been told NYJ had discussions with the top 2 free-agent centers--Mitch Morse & Matt Paradis-- but never actually made an offer to either one of them. Jets have reached out to available vets to gauge market value. Plus, draft is an option 141 11:22 AM - Mar 15, 2019 Twitter Ads info and privacy 71 people are talking about this While the Jets were busy adding other top free agents such as Le’Veon Bell and C.J. Mosley, it’s a little surprising they didn’t make offers to two players at a position of serious need. Mehta added that the Jets were concerned about Paradis’ health after his 2018 season ended with a broken fibula, but this is a center that had started 57 straight games before the injury. Morse, meanwhile, is just 26 and could have been a wall for Darnold for the foreseeable future. The Jets have been looking for a reliable center since Nick Mangold was let go. Wesley Johnson was a disaster in 2017 and Spencer Long was hardly an improvement a season ago. After years of stability behind Mangold and, before him, Kevin Mawae, it would stand to reason that the Jets missed the days of such sturdiness at the position
https://jetswire.usatoday.com/2019/..._medium=recirc&utm_campaign=rail-most-popular 5 centers the Jets can still get in free agency By: Sam Neumann | March 16, 2019 8:25 am ET The Jets desperately need a center. After missing out on both Mitch Morse and Matt Paradis, New York may have to settle for the lower-tier veteran centers on the market. The Jets have failed to replace Nick Mangold since his exit after New York’s veteran purge of its roster and they are desperate for some stability. Let’s take a look at five free agent centers that the Jets can still consider. John Sullivan John Sullivan was a key cog on the interior of the Los Angeles Rams offensive line, helping them make a Super Bowl run. Sullivan spent 2008-15 with the Minnesota Vikings, helping block for Adrian Peterson during his historic run. After being released by Minnesota in 2016, Sullivan signed with the Redskins. He wound up starting 31 games over two seasons for the Rams after signing with them back in 2017. Sullivan helped Todd Gurley transcend to the next level and was part of the offensive line that was named the Built Ford Tough Offensive Line of the Year in 2018. Already blocking for two Hall of Fame talents at running back in his career, Sullivan should be on the Jets’ radar after their addition of Le’Veon Bell. Stefen Wisniewski Stefen Wisniewski is a former second-round pick who can play both guard and center. Wisniewski won a Super Bowl while with the Philadelphia Eagles but played more of a traditional guard role with them due to Jason Kelce’s dominance at center. In 2018, Wisniewski entered the season as the starting left guard but was then benched in Week 5 in favor of Isaac Seumalo. He started the final three weeks of the regular season after Seumalo was placed on IR. It is likely that if Wisniewski is moved back to his natural position of center, he could enjoy more success in green and white. Brett Jones Brett Jones had an interesting path to the NFL. He was originally drafted in the CFL draft, but signed with the New York Giants following two successful seasons playing in Canada. He won the CFL’s Most Outstanding Offensive Lineman Award and signed with the Giants in 2015. Jones was penciled in as the backup center in 2016 while playing a depth role, starting 13 games at guard and center. Jones was traded to the Vikings during the 2017 offseason in exchange for a 2019 seventh-rounder. He started the first three games at center before starting center Pat Elflein returned from injury but found himself in a backup role when Elflein returned. The Jets might not want to bank on Jones starting at center, but his versatility presents an intriguing option. Nick Easton Nick Easton is another option from the Minnesota Vikings. The Vikings have a starting center set in place but want Easton back for depth purposes. Easton came over in a trade with the 49ers and filled in at center for Joe Berger during parts of the 2016 season. His 2017 and 2018 seasons were both cut sort due to injury, but he did start 12 games at guard in 2017. Easton, like Jones, presents himself as a versatile option, without much experience starting at center. Josh Sitton The Dolphins released Josh Sitton at the beginning of free agency. ESPN then reported that he was likely to join the Jets. Sitton would like to reunite with Adam Gase, who was his head coach during his short stay in Miami. Sitton can play all three positions on the interior offensive line, and even though he is not a natural center by trade, he feels comfortable there. The 6-foot-3, 320-pound veteran guard is a four-time Pro Bowler who has played 11 NFL seasons, including his first eight in Green Bay. Sitton seems the most likely player on this list that the Jets will take a flier on. ***** I'm hoping for Sullivan or Sitton
He makes one move for Osemele & is right back to trying to get cute w the OL..could end up costing him his job.See jerry Reese. You cant go into the draft w no starting center & no 2nd round pick. Something has to give
I'm still hoping that he has sense enough to sign one of Sitton or Sullivan. Sullivan is the better Center, but if Sitton can stay health, I think he would be solid, and he would give us a great deal of flexibility with the interior 3 OL spots. The Jets could stick with Osemele at LG regardless, then have Sitton at C and Winters at RG, or if the Jets still draft a C to develop, he could start at C and one of Sitton/Winters could start at RG. Didn't the Jets try Winters at C a couple of seasons ago? I think they did in preseason, but he sucked at it I think. Do you remember? In terms of the 2nd round pick, I'm hoping they trade down, take Brian Burns with their #1 pick, then if they covet Bradbury, take him. If not, then either take Elgton Jenkins, or if they're certain that they could get him with one of their early 3rd round picks, then take either Greg Little, a WR like Kelvin Harmon, N'Keal Harry, or Hakim Butler, or Rock Ya-Sin, CB. Ideal draft for me: Trade down with the Giants and acquire a 2nd and 3rd round pick this year and next year's 2nd round pick (next year's 1st would obviously be better, but am trying to keep it more realistic). 1 - Brian Burns 2 - WR: N'Keal Harry, Kelvin Harmon, or Hakim Butler (DeAndre Baker, CB or Rock Ya-Sin, CB would be alternates) 3a - Elgton Jenkins, C 3b - CB (Isaiah Johnson or David Long (alternates if the Jets went CB in round 2 - WR: Anthony Johnson, Miles Boykin, Jakobi Meyers, Mercole Hardman, or David Sills) 3c - RB (Benny Snell or Myles Gaskin) 4 - OG if they didn't sign Sitton or Sullivan (Dru Samia or Ben Powers) 6 - Foster Moreau, TE or Olive Sagapolu, NT 7 - WR (Keelan Doss, KeeSean Johnson, Greg Dortch or maybe Jamarius Way)
If any of you were worried, worry no longer. We re-signed our living, breathing block in the back machine.
Fuck no. He's awful! Hopefully, he's just insurance so they don't have to draft a TE or in case Leggett can't stay healthy. I'm hoping they draft a TE in the 4th or 6th round. If he stays, I hope they aren't paying him over the vet minimum. I wouldn't pay him $50.
Maybe not. Hope springs eternal. Mac may be just adding depth and competition so he doesn't have to draft a TE if one's not there that they really like. It appears that as of today, he's already done that to himself at the C position and Edge Rusher position, but I hope that I'm wrong and he's in negotiations with Justin Houston or Shane Ray and John Sullivan or Josh Sitton. I understand the signing of the TE yesterday for STs play. Tomlinson is supposed to be a good blocker but isn't really, and is a terrible receiver. I'd definitely like to see them draft a TE in the 4th or 6th round. I think they'll look to keep 4 TEs and probably don't trust Leggett to stay healthy (and understandably so).
He was actually responsible for springing Andre Roberts free on special teams on a lot of his returns, but besides that he's horrible. Still gotta get a second TE behind Herndon.
OK, thanks for the correction. So that's two TEs signed for STs, or do you think that Brown and Tomlinson will compete for the same spot on the roster?
Not sure, Boyer had Herndon, Tomlinson, and Leggett blocking all of STs. Brown is mostly a STer so he'll probably be competing for one of those spots. Tomlinson never should've been used the way he was by Bates, it's not his thing.
and there goes Justin Houston (Colts)... https://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2019/03/21/colts-reach-a-deal-with-justin-houston/
didn't seem like we ever had any interest TBH. probably due to age since we went after barr and another one i cna't remember who were both much younger seems like at this point mac is content and will fill the rest of the hole sin the draft which includes C and edge and WR. I think we won't improve the OT position until next year at this point and will run with beechum and shell. C worries me the most
FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccckkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk! I hate McCagnan.
Colts were reported heavily interested from day 1. The Jets may not even took a sniff out of Houston. So what does this mean to the draft? We re def keep a 3rd pick in Bosa, Allen or Q?
