The annoying thing with black is it was the hot trend in the late 90s and early 00s. Teams that never had anything to do with black started adopting it. It was particularly awful in baseball (Mets, Royals, Reds, etc.) The other annoying, and related, trend was darker colors, which were also supposed to look tough. See the Pats, Rams, and even the Jets (kelly to hunter green). So black feels like an attempt to be cool like it's 20 years ago.
In most cases you either have white or black as a backdrop..minor exceptions for yellow, silver & 80s baseball had light blue..So i mean...if a team wants create a new identity the backdrop is a reasonable place to start,no? I dont see it as following an outdated trend at all.Whatever looks good, looks good.Isnt viewing it as following an outdated trend in a strange way having an outdated perspective? Its not the early 2000s. I could understand being upset if green was being replaced..but this attachment to white is peculiar to me.
Exactamundo. You’ve captured the essence of the anti-black uniform thingy describing why it’s not a “racist” thing. Thank you.
Let me know what you think of the Ohio State alts, the Celtics alts, the Stanford alts—all the non black teams using black as a primary Alt color. Now imagine that’s the primary uniform. Black is so 1990’s.
I don't mind a black alternate or even black trim, though some posters do and I understand why. But I would be seriously pissed if we were making black the primary color, as other posters have wished for.
So when you tune into the Rose Bowl and you see OSU decked out in black you say “nice”? Stanford is called the Cardinal. Red. Now I’m going to admit something here. Red and black go. My high school team was red and white and my senior year we added black accents. My baseball uni was the Red Sox with black instead of dark blue. It goes. I don’t hate Stanford but it just looks so crappy an Ivy League pandering to use an all black uniform. When you’re The Cardinal. That’s my point. Adding black is cheesy pandering.
Awwwww yeahhhh Green black and real gold (not that piss stain yellow that the Packers use)...Daddy like...
So lets say they end up with a black alternate. Exactly how many times per year are we thinking they'll wear these alternates?
Anti-black or really anything remotely modern or fashion forward in the name of color blind retro elitism is just as cheesy. Its about preference. Not absolutes
I don’t like to call out posts personally, but this is really stupid. I don’t recall anyone saying not liking black uniforms makes you racist... so this seems like a whole lotta projection to me. I’m a white dude from the country and I like black, so I can’t imagine personally black clothes or uniforms are an intentional marketing ploy towards black people. If someone said that, feel free to point it out because I missed it. Otherwise that seems like you’re the only one thinking it.
